"(Canadian) Prairie boys on the lower decks played a big part in the '39-'45 North Atlantic War. It was the greatest experience of their lives....being hollered at by big b urly instructors, having to learn which is their left and which is their right foot, how to sling a hammock and how to get in one without upsetting it. They saw for the first time those vast bodies of water, cruisers, corvettes, mine-sweepers, batt lships, etc., and learned how to get up on deck, to lean over the rail when they felt a meal coming up, also how to dress to stand the cold and wet of a four-hour watch at sea. 'Praire Boys Afloat' tells all and George Zarn captures us again as he gives us a peek at the navy with their pants down." Minor rubbing on spine, tiny speck on fore-edge of textblock.
