1 Izzard, George. Inscribed. ONE FOR THE ROAD: THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A LONDON VILLAGE PUBLICAN.
Max Parrish, London, 1959, first edition.
191 pp, 8vo (8" H), hard cover in dust jacket. INSCRIBED ON FRONT FREE ENDPAPER: "FROM JACK BILLINGS TO HIS DAD BILL WITH LOVE. GEORGE IZZARD 1959". "George of 'The Dove' is widely known as the landlord of one of the best and friendliest pubs in London. It is a riverside inn with a village atmosphere, and its name crops up every year in the reports of the Boat Race. It has friends all over the world, who range from locals such as Sir Alan Herbert to Shostakovich, Ingrid Bergman and Sir Mo rtimer Wheeler. This is, however, not a story of the famous people George Izzard knows, but of how he decided to invest his small savings and become an innkeeper. It is the story of how he succeeded, and of the joys and annoyances of a typical p u b lican's life. It is a source of advice and inspiration for all (and there are many) who would like to keep an inn: and it is highly enjoyable reading for all who treasure the English pub." Light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, light brown i ng t o edges of text block. Dust jacket has light to moderate edge wear, several small edge tears with creases, small area of surface paper loss on spine, light rubbing and soiling - mainly on rear panel. Very Good/Good-
