155 pp, 7 3/4" H, flexible dark green cloth-covered boards with gold lettering on spine, gold letterng and black lettering/banding/emblem on front board. Tissue-covered frontispiece plus numerous other b&w illustrations. "The aim of this handbook is to trace, as clearly as possible in a short compass, the historic sequence of stained glass - the development, that is to say, of its design, and the gradual perfection of its technique. It has not been thought necessary to dwell upon the period of its decadence. In choosing my illustrations almost entirely from glass in the Victoria and Albert Museum or from drawings belonging to it, I have deliberately sacrificed the opportunity of making a much showier book; but it seemed to me that i n a handbook for the Museum that was the only right thing to do. It may be the means, too, of drawing attention to the tracings of old English glass made by the late Octavius Hudson, and to the interesting sixteenth-century working drawings for do me stic work in the Art Library." - from the Preface. Front free endpaper has been clipped at top corner, very light staining around edges of endpapers - offset from cloth, slight dust staining on top of text block, minor staing on cloth - include s p artial cup ring, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, very light edge wear, slight wrinkling to cloth on rear board.
