Davies, Hunter. THE BEATLES: THE AUTHORISED BIOGRAPHY. Heinemann, London, 1968, first edition. 374 pp, 8vo (8 3/4" H), hard cover in dust jacket. B&w photographs. "Everybody knows about (the Beatles) but what everybody knows stems mainly from the Beatlemania days in 1963 and 1964 when the hysteria they generated enslaved, or startled, the w orld. In this, the full authorised biography the events and influences leading up to their success are charted for the first time. The author has pieced together the complete story by talking to those who were there, during their childhood , t h e i r schooldays, their early skiffle days, their years in Hamburg, their fanatical but unpublicised early successes in Liverpool and then Beatlemania. During Beatlemania they were transported inside a sealed cell around the world and then in 19 66 t he y decided to give up touring. In this post-touring phase they have produced perhaps their most successful compositions but in many senses they have become recluses, withdrawing from the public world. Throughout this biography the Beatl es are ta lki ng about themselves, then and now. This is their story, mainly in their own words, showing warts and all. For those who still believe their public image, as four clean sweet mop-heads, the warts will be a surprise. There is no att emp t to con done or condemn, to explain or analyse. This is a biographical record out of which emerges the elements which formed them, from John and Paul's personalities to the creation of their present-day songs. By illuminating the facts the rea sons for t heir succ ess become apparent. The details of what Brian Epstein did for them are made clear and so are the events leading up to his death, a death which in many ways summed up an age. This is not a fan book, through the author is a fan and Beatle fans thro ughout the world will find it fascinating. It is a social document of our times." Tiny bump at bottom edge of front board, small bump/crease at bottom edge of pages 57 to 72, light wrinkling at bottom of spine. Dust jacket has light w rinkli ng at top/bottom of spine and falp-folds, small area with scuff/tiny perforations on front panel, minor soiling. Very Good/Very Good- Price:
