Oxford University Press, London, 1966, first edition (with Wildsmith illustrations). 96 pp, 11" H, hard cover in dust jacket and original publisher's plastic sleeve. Illustrated throughout with Brian Wildsmith's vivid colour drawings. "These poems of childhood have been among the best loved in the English language for many years. First published in 1885 they were dedicated by Robert Louis Stevenson to his nurse, Alison Cunningham, and the poems themselves bear testimony to the happy childhood through which she led him. They tell of dreams of great adventure (The Land of St ory-books), of everyday play (The Swing), of a child's observations (Nest Eggs), his love of a secret (My Treasures), and so on through all the joys and sorrows, fears and fancies, of an imaginative, solitary child." Bump at bottom of spine, small area of color loss on free front endpaper due to pencil erasure. Dust jacket is price-clipped, has wrinkling at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, small chip and light browning at bottom of rear hinge, minor soiling, plastic sleeve has some small areas of edge damage and a few tiny punctures.
