1 Boyd, Derek. Introduction by Lt.-General Sir Brian Horrocks. ROYAL ENGINEERS. FAMOUS REGIMENTS SERIES.
Leo Cooper, London, 1975, first edition.
162 pp, 8vo (8 3/4" H), hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 0850521971 B&w photographs, reproductions, maps. "The Royal Engineers list no battle honours, for, as their two mottoes tell us, with justifiable pride, they are to be found not only 'Ubique ' but also 'Quo Fas et Gloria Ducunt'. Wherever the Army is, there too will be found a detachment of Royal Engineers. They can also boast that wherever a gaggle of generals is, there too will be found a disproportionately high percentage of R o y a l Engineers. Indeed there have been times when they seemed almost to monopolize the military hierarchy. The Royal Engineers as we know them came into being in 1856 when officers and men of the Engineer arm of the Board of Ordnance were am al ga ma te d i nto one Corps; but the history of military engineering in Britain can be traced back to the time of William the Conqueror. Colonel Boyd, himself a retired Royal Engineer, fills in the historical background and explains how the Corps ha s e vol ved o ve r the years. Since the Sappers have been 'Everywhere' he has necessarily been obliged to undertake a delicate task of judicious selectivity. He has acquitted himself with honour and Royal Engineers past and present will have ever y re ason to fee l a s proud of this tribute to their Corps as they are of the Corps itself." Includes music for the Corps March. Minor browning to pages, very light browning to edges of textblock, light fading to top edge of boards. Dust j acket has very ligh t ed ge b rowning, very light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine. Very Good/Very Good
