1 Boswell, Richard. Foreword by General Sir Peter de la Billiere. WEAPONS FREE. THE STORY OF A GULF WAR HELICOPTER PILOT.
Crecy, (Manchester, 1998).
216 pp, large 8vo (9 7/8" H), hard cover in dust jacket. B&w and color photographs. "In September 1990 Richard Boswell was a newly qualified helicopter pilot in the Royal Navy, fresh out of flight school and flying one of the most potent fighting helicopters in the world - the Westland Lynx. The world was at his feet in every sense. Then, on the day he and his girlfriend decided to buy a house together, Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. With less than 24 hours notice, Richard Boswell was onb oard HMS Manchester and en-route to the Gulf and impending war. Once in the Gulf, HMS Manchester prepared for the seaborne invasion that most thought was inevitalbe. Boswell saw action against Iraqi forces, protecting Allied ships and sinki n g a n u mber of Iraqi gunboats. After the liberation of Kuwait, he flew extensively around the devastated country, when his duties included a spell as pilot for Sir Peter de la Billiere. But his story does not end there. After returning to th e UK , B o sw el l became an instructor and also indulged his passion for flying home-built aircraft, a passion that led to the accident that nearly killed him and ended his days as a Navy pilot. The portrayal of the battle to rebuilt his shattere d lif e is ev ery bi t as grapic as his wartime experiences in the Gulf." Minor wrinkling at top of spine - very light at bottom. Dust jacket has light wrinkling at bottom of spine. VG+/VG+
