(Ballantine, New York, 1973), first printing. 
160 pp, 8vo (8 3.16" H), soft cover. Profusely illustrated with b&w photographs, maps, reproductions, organization charts. "For many officers of the general staff, recognition of the way they had been exploited for Hitler's criminal purposes broug ht disillusionment far more bitter than defeat. Under Hitler their adherence to principles of honour and decency became treason, their loyalty to the head of state a crime. The dilemma split the general staff, weakened it as a military instrument , and finally tore it apart." Interior - previous owner's embossed blind stamp and ink stamp on contents page, very light browning on inside of covers, otherwise clean and tight with no other ownership marks. Exterior - book lightly cocked, very li ght browning to edges of textblock and on spine, minor edge wear, one tiny corner crease and one small soft corner crease, previous owner's stamp on bottom of text block. Very Good
