503 pp, 8vo (8 5/8" H), hard cover (dark blue cloth with gold lettering on spine) - no dust jacket. Map endpapers, b&w photographs, drawings, reproductions, maps - color frontispiece of Lord Roberts on Vonolel. Contents: Foreword; Author's Preface; Synopsis of Lord Robert's Career; Antecedents and Early Years; India before the Mutiny; The Indian Mutiny; On the Staff; (Second Afghan War) The First Phase; The Second Phase; The March from Kabul to Kandahar; Triumph; Commander-in-Chief, Madras; Commander-in-Chief, India; Commander-in-Chief, Ireland; Commander-in-Chief, South Africa; Commander-in-Chief; The Fight for National Service; The End; Epilogue. A few pages with faint erased pencil marks in margins, light liquid stain on bottom of textblock with slight migration into edge of pages, some discoloration at top of fore-edge of textblock, some loss of color at bottom of spine and rear board (fainter) due to liquid, light rubbing, light edge wear, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine. Good reading copy.
