1 Weston, Robert and Taylor, Robert. Foreword by Air Vice Marshal 'Johnnie' Johnson. THE AIR COMBAT PAINTINGS OF ROBERT TAYLOR.
Vanwell, (St. Catharine's, Ontario, 1987).
128 pp, oblong 4to (11 3/8" H x 14 1/2" D), hard cover in dust jacket. Pictorial endpapers, profusely illlustrated throughout in b&w and color. "This is the first time a book has been produced featuring a comprehensive selection of Taylor's work and it is thus a publication of great significance. Those already familiar with his work will be intrigued to discover for the first time the secrets of his techniques, and all combat aviation buffs will delight in the behind-the-scenes stories of life with the 'Aces'. In researching his paintings, Robert Taylor has worked with some of the greatest aviators in the world and the text draws upon his encyclopedic fund of facts and anecdotes concerning these famous figures and their service careers. In addition to this, a number of these great pilots have contributed their own first-hand accounts of the aircraft they flew in combat and other personal recollections...features in-depth visual and verbal studies of many of Taylor's most outstanding paintings, along with a wealth of colour details, pencil sketches and photographs. Much of this visual information has never been published before..." Small soft bump to bottom corner of textblock, very small pencil erasure mark on free front endpaper, tiny bump to bottom front corners, slight bump at top/bottom of spine - with 1" closed tear at top of rear hinge, minor rubbing to boards. Dust jacket has light edge wrinkling, light rubbing, a few faint line indentations. VG -/VG
