46 pp, 9 5/16" H. 22 b&w plates. "(A)rranged as far as possible for the convenience of the reader in search of a short summary of the general history of lace-making, as well as the visitor interested in special pieces on view. For further convenience the various classes of Irish work have been treated in a separate chapter, and the early history of the industry in Ireland has been dealt with in some detail. A Glossary of some of the principal technical terms is included - whilst the Bibliography indicates some of the more important books and other sources where the reader may find additional information." Contents: Glossary; Introduction - Evolution of Lace; Continental and English Needlepoint Laces - Italian, French, Flemish; Spanish, English; Continental and English Pillow (or Bobbin or Bone) Laces - ditto; Irish Laces - Early Irish Laces, Carrickmacross, Limerick, Irish Needlepoint, Crochet, Tatting; Miscellaneous - Machine-Lace; Bibliography. Interior - clean and tight with no previous ownership marks. Exterior - very light edge wear, very light rubbing, small bump at top of front hinge, very small crease/wear at bottom corner of front cover, light browning/soiling.
