183 pp, 8vo (8 1/4" H), hard cover in dust jacket. Map frontispiece. The story of the early life of Brook Watson, told in a fictionalized format for yourg adults. "Left a pennipless orphan at the age of ten in England, (Brook) was sent to a distant relative in Boston, Mass., and from there to the West Indies. While swimming in the harbour in Havana, a shark bit off his right leg. After many experiences he found work with a trader in Chignecto and through his exploits and ability attracted the attention of officials. He entered business with a Halifax merchant and became more and more prominent, being elected to Parliament, acting as Commissary-General to the Army, Director of the Bank of England and finally Lord Mayor of London and a baronet. This exciting story deals mainly with his early days and his exploits around Fort Beausejour during the stirring struggle with the French on the Isthmus of Chignecto." Faint tape marks at top/bottom of free endpapers, minor edge wear, faint soiling to edges of textblock. Dust jacket has several tiny/small chips, several small closed tears, creasing at bottom of front panel, light edge wear/wrinkling, fading to spine color - lettering legible, ghost sticker mark on front panel, light rubbing/soiling. VG-/Fair
