(The author) recounts intriguing and often mysterious tales of the world's famous diamonds - the Koh-i-oor, the Regent, the Sancy, and many more - and his anecdotes about the illustrious owners of Tiffany diamonds provide a rare glimpse into their glamorous lives. There were few diamonds in America when Tiffany & Co. opened its doors in 1837, but within a short time marketing genius Charles Lewis Tiffany realized that all Americans would be fascinated by the lore of diamonds, their titled owners, and the adventures surrounding them. So when the firm bought a large collection of diamond jewelry from the French aristocracy in 1848, and the crown jewels in 1887, Tiffany became known as the world's authority on the finest diamonds, a reputation it holds to this day. Designers who have worked with Tiffany diamonds include such revered names as Elsa Peretti, Paulding Farnham, Jean Schlumberger, and Paloma Picasso, among others, and many Tiffany jewels are in important museum collections around the world. Today the world-famous 128.54-carat Tiffany diamond is on permanent display in Tiffany's flagship store in New York, evidence of the firm's diamond legacy. Handsomely produced with archival photographs, sketches, drawings, and new photography of antique and contemporary jewelry pieces, this exquisite volume is the ultimate read for anyone whose eye has ever been dazzled by a diamond."
