287 pp + publisher's advertising, 8 3/4" H. Dark green cloth with gilt lettering & banding on spine. B&w photographs, drawing. Inscribed in green ink on front free endpaper: "To my very good friends / Tom & ? Wheeler / Sharers of many happy hours / Garry Allighan". The second name has been inked over at some later date. "Controlling one of the greatest forces in international affairs, the Director-General of the B.B.C. has attained a position of power second only to that of a Prime Minister. He directs a machine that produces mass-education, mass-entertainment, and mass-information for continuous consumption by millions of the peoples of this country and every overseas nation of the Commonwealth. (His life story) is here told in full for the first time, and makes sensational revelations of the career and character of this remarkable, but unknown man. (It) is superimposed on the background of the romance of radio itself, and which clearly shows how, for this man of destiny, the man and his destiny were being developed on parallel lines. Light browning to endpapers, light toning to margins of pages, slight separation between some page gatherings (mostly at photograph pages) but still holding firmly, small label from bookstore on front pastedown, some edge wear to boards, wrinkling and light wear at top/bottom of spine, browning to edges of text block, some very faint liquid marks on boards, spine is a slightly darker green than boards
