305 pp, 8 1/8" H. Red cloth with gilt lettering on spine and front board, black illustration on front board, top edge orange. 12 colour plates (including frontispiece) - collated. B&w head- and tail-pieces and title page decoration together with wood engravings after Arthur Hughes. Orange & white pictorial endpapers. A lonely princess is the subject of a plot by goblins to abduct her as revenge for their banishment. A miner's son, Curdie, stumbles upon the goblin's one weakness - their very sensitive feet - and through many adventures, manages to foil their evil machinations. Splitting to front inside hinge paper - hinge holding firmly, light toning in margins of pages, one colour illidtration page has light corner creases, a few very small light stains in margins of pages 33 to 36 and pages 125 to 130, small tear at bottom of page 122 archivally taped, very light browning and a few very small stains to fore-edge and bottom of text block, very light fading to spine colour, light edge wear - wear at corners, wrinkling and light wear at top/bottom of spine.
