New York Del Rey / Ballantine Hard Cover Very Good Very Good Dust jacket art by Darrell K. Sweet, Keith Parkinson & Rowena Morrill.
308pp, 286 pp, 291 pp, 334 pp, 304 pp - the first 5 volumes of "The Magic Kingdom of Landover" series. Published between 1986-1995, this is a mixed set of hard covers - the first and fifth volumes are Book Club editions (8 1/2" H) and the second, third and fourth volumes are first editions, first printings (9 1/4" - 9 1/2" H). "Landover was a genuine magic kingdom, with fairy folk and wizardry, just as the advertisement had promised. But after he purchased it, Ben Holiday (former Chicago lawyer) learned that there were a few details the ad had failed to mention. The kingdom was a ruin. The Barons refused to recognize a king, and the peasants were without hope. A dragon was laying waste the countryside, while an evil witch plotted to destroy everything. Ben's only followers were the incompetent Court Magician; Abernathy, the talking dog who served as Court Scribe; and the lovely Willow - but she had a habit of putting down roots in the moonlight and turning into a tree. The Paladin, legendary champion of the Kings of Landover, seemed to be only a myth and an empty suit of armor - ." Four volumes are slightly cocked; minor to light wrinkling at top/bottom of spines; scattered tiny faint foxing marks on top of text blocks of volumes 1, 2 & 3; volume 1 has light edge wear and soft crease down spine; volume 4 has some areas of light color fading on quarter cloth and tiny foxing mark on fore-edge of text block. Dust jackets have edge wear/wrinkling that varies from minor to light, volumes 2 & 3 have been price-clipped, minor rubbing.

62 Broughton, R. Peter. LOOKING UP: A HISTORY OF THE ROYAL ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY OF CANADA.
Toronto Dundurn 1994 1550022083 / 9781550022087 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good
288 pp, oblong (8 3/4" H x 11 1/4" D). B&w photographs, reproductions. "One hundred and twenty-five years ago eight men met on December 1, 1868, to form the Toronto Astronomical Club. Among them were a tailor, a teacher and a cabinet-maker. How surprised these ordinary citizens would be to see that their little group has grown into an organization of over 3000 members in all parts of the country, in the United States and overseas. Twenty-two cities from St John's to Victoria have local chapters or 'Centres' of the RASC. Novices and naturalists, amateurs and professional scientists all play important roles in this remarkable success story. General readers will be surprised to find out what amateurs can learn from the sky, at meetings and through the Society's publications. Leaders of other volunteer organizations, educators looking for ways to promote greater appreciation of science, and local historians interested in the role of the Society in the life of their communities will find helpful ideas in this book. And members themselves will be better equipped to make decisions for the future through an appreciation of the development of the Society, its individual Centres and the men and women who have led them." Light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, two small shallow dents at top edge of rear board. Dust jacket has light wrinkling at top rear edge and at bottom of spine, minor rubbing, 2" faint scratch on rear panel.

THE QUEEN'S FLIGHT: FIFTY YEARSOF ROYAL FLYING., Burns, Michael, ed. Foreword by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.
65 Burns, Michael, ed. Foreword by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. THE QUEEN'S FLIGHT: FIFTY YEARSOF ROYAL FLYING.
Blandford, Poole, 1986, first edition.
160 pp, large 8vo (9 15/16" H), hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 0713718889 Profusely illustrated with b&w photographs. "Carrying the Royal Family by air is a unique job and to do it, there is a unique flying unit. Now fifty years old, The Queen' s Flight of the Royal Air Force operates to probably the highest standards of any organisation in the world of aviation. Their bright red helicopters, Andovers and now BAe 146s are a familiar sight on Royal occasions, their punctuality and r e l i a b i l ity taken for granted. The effort which goes into maintaining those standards, and into assuring the Royal Family's safety and comfort in the air, is the fascinating subject of this fully authorised book. Behind the aircrew is the ba ck -u p te am i n Operations, the engineers, the administrative staff, the ground support for the helicopters, the stewards and the security staff - they all play their part, and they all find a place in this book. The history of the Flight (an d i nde ed of Ro yal fl yi ng, which goes back to July 1917) is also recounted both in narrative form and in cameo reminiscences from ex-members of the Flight; these include Brian Trubshaw, later Concorde's test pilot. With 150 photographs to ill ustr ate the te xt, the resu lt is a rare glimpse behind the royal scene, which will intrigue anyone with an interest in aviation." Very light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine. Dust jacket has light wrinkling/soft creassing at top edge - mainly o n rea r pa nel. Ne ar F ine/ Very Goo d

Coteau, (Regina, SK, 1993).
103 pp, 8vo, soft cover. LARGE INSCRIPTION BY AUTHOR ON FREE FRONT ENDPAPER. "Hitler and Stalin stalk these poems. Mick Burrs examines the Fuehrer's love of King Kong. He probes Stalin's relationship with his washerwoman mother, who knew him as her little 'ZoZo'. He confronts the kind of mind that can reduce individuals to political symbols or mere numbers. But tyrants are not only found in political office. He sees a direct connection between the rise of the modern dictator and the phe onomenon of the multiple murderer. 'Every multiple murderer is a miniature tyrant,' Burrs writes; 'he only lacks an enormous arsenal, a loyal following, and a sacred cause'." Interior - clean and tight. THE DARK TWIN., Campbell, Marion.
68 Campbell, Marion. THE DARK TWIN.
London Turnstone 1973 0855000058 / 9780855000059 First British Edition Hard Cover Very Good- Good- Jacket design by Roy Tunnicliffe. Inscribed By Author
256 pp, 8 3/4" H. Inscribed on half title page: "To Suzanne / with best wishes from / Marion Campbell". "The old man knows death is near. He has travelled a long road since he was simply Drost, son of no man, the only child of Malda, the Middle Priestess. From the warmth of the consecrated Hearth he was taken with the King's son to undergo the cruel schooling of the priests of the New Way. From childhood his life had been ruled by his duty as the Dark Twin to share with the treacherous Ailill the onerous burden of kingship. He had been sustained by the wisdom of the Old Way during his trials at the hands of the priests, in the combat and dancing by which he proved his manhood, and through the web of intrigue pervading the lives of his people. But when the bitter time came for commitment to a princely marriage he felt only the pang of loss. For always, breaking through his dreams, there was someone for whom his whole being yearned - someone who was his other half from past time and for all time. Yssa. 'You'll wed young and widow young and it will be more of her making than yours,' said the Old One. And so it happened. Now Drost is about to die and urgency grips him. He must forge the chain of memory to link his spirit with the lost sould of Yssa. Each link must ring true if they are to find their way. Marion Campbell has woven the strands of this complex and moving saga with consummate skill. It is all there: the lore of ancient Britain, the layers of symbolic meaning, the experience of strength struggling against evil and secret knowledge. This love story as old as time will strike a resposive chord in everyone alive to the pervading reality of eternal myth." Some scattered tiny marks of silver ink from spine title on exterior of book - mainly on spine. Dust jacket has light to moderate edge wear/wrinkling with a few tiny chips and tears with creases, light scuffing and rubbing marks - mainly on spine and rear panel, light browning at top edge.

70 Cannan, Joanna. OXFORDSHIRE. THE COUNTY BOOKS SERIES.
London Robert Hale 1975 Hard Cover Very Good- Good-
276 pp, 8vo (8 11/16" H). B&w photographs, fold-out map at rear. "For all the beauty and variety which it offers, Oxfordshire has been always overshadowed by the fame of its county town; visitors speed along the great roads which lead to 'the dreaming city', ignorant alike of the lovely lost stone villages of the north and the remote valleys hidden among the beechwoods of the south-west. Everyone knows the Thames, but Oxfordshire has other rivers: 'gentle' Evenlode, sparkling Windrush, reedy Thame. The towers of Oxford are world-famous, but the county has Norman churches by the dozen and, though her castles are fallen, a wealth of old manor houses and ancient farmsteads, exquisitely grouped. In this book the author, born and bred in Oxford, has endeavoured to recapture the atmosphere of lost splendour which pervades the shire, to be wandered through and dreamed in rather than methodically toured." Minor browning on endpapers, tiny bump to bottom corner of approx. pages 103 to 130, light browning to edges of textblock - tiny stain on top of tect block and on fore-edge, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine. Dust jacket has light to moderate browning, moderate edge wear/wrinkling, several small chips, 1" chip missing from top of spine, tear at top of rear hinge with old tape on inside - now protected in removable mylar sleeve.

It retains a close fidelity to known facts ab out the life of one of the finest generals the world has ever known, but it reads like an historical novel....This book recreates the amazing life and times of this military genius, charismatic leader, astute manager of resources, efficien t p u b l i c a dministrator, and great champion of democracy. Most of what we know about Hannibal was written by his enemies over 2,000 years ago. Their writings show a grudging admiration for the brilliant Hannibal, but they are written from t he Ro ma n pe rs pe c ti ve, with the prejudices of his bitter enemies. 'Hannibal's Lieutenant' interprets the fascinating facts and situations as Hannibal and his supporters would have seen them, with their own prejudices. Once war was declared by h is gov er nme nt, Ha nn iba l became a victim of political gridlock and inaction by politicians of the Carthaginian government in Africa. Political enemies in Carthage, more than the Roman soldiers in Italy, were responsible for his failure t o d ef eat Rom e.. ..Ha nnib al c ome s al ive as the story follows his life: from his early years to commanding general of Carthaginian forces in Spain at age 25; from climbing the hazardous Alps with his army and elephants to invade Italy at age 26 t o f ight ing R oman s in Italy for 16 y ears with no major defeats; through public adminstrator in Carthage for seven years after the war, where he reformed the government by eliminating graft and corruption and changed it from rule by a privi leged few to t he mos t dem ocrat ic gov ernme nt in the Hellenistic world; from military consultant of the king of Syria in Ephesus where he accompanied the king during Syria's invasion of Greece and later led a fleet of warships in a sea battle to hi s ref uge on the is land o f Cret e; thro ugh hi s stin t as consultant to the king of Bithynia after fleeing Crete; and finally to his suicide at age 64 in 183 B.C." 80 Clark, Andrew. (Harold Pringle.) A KEEN SOLDIER: THE EXECUTION OF SECOND WORLD WAR PRIVATE HAROLD PRINGLE.
Alfred A. Knopf, (Toronto, 2002), first edition.
342 pp, 8vo (8 1/2" H), hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 067697354X "Harold Pringle was underage when the Second World War broke out, eager to leave quiet Flinton, Ontario, to serve by his father's side. But few who volunteered to fight 'the good fight' realized what horror lay ahead; soon both young Harold and his father were cracking under the strain. His father was sent home; Harold Pringle found himself in Italy, fighting on the bloody 'Hitler Line'. Shellshocked, this broken soldier e mbarked on a tragic, final course: desertion, debauchery in the streets of Rome and a suspect accusation of murder. His appeal was reviewed by the highest levels of government, right up to Prime Minister King. But two months after the of f i c i al end of the war, Private Pringle was put to death - the only soldier the Canadians had executed since the First World War. His own countrymen carried out the orders, forbidden to go home before completing this last grotesque assignment. Th e Pr in gle file was closed and stayed that way for fifty years - until Andrew Clark uncovered it and began a two-year investigative search. (This) is a true-life military detective story that shows another side of what many consider our proudes t m il ita ry campaign. Andrew Clark examines the fallout of a crisis that disfigured our national conscience and continues to raise questions about the ethics of war..." Minor wrinkle at top/bottom of spine. Dust jacket has minor edge wrinkling. Nea r F ine/ Nea r Fine
