2 Goulart, Ron. AN INFORMAL HISTORY OF THE PULP MAGAZINE.
New York Ace 1973 Mass Market Paperback Good Reference Copy
192 pp, 7" H. B&w illustrations. "Spanning the years between the dime novels of the 19th century and today's paperbacks, pulp magazines provided millions with their first and only taste of 'literature'. The noble, resourceful heroes of those gripping tales of fiction, along with their monstrous, evil antagonists, were depicted on cheap paper, and housed in lurid covers that shocked all but the near-blind. There was 'The Shadow', scourge of the underworld, 'Doc Savage', superhuman adventurer, and 'The Phantom Detective', sleuth extraordinaire, a well as the breathtaking exploits of World War I sky fighters, mad scientists, 'Tarzan' and a host of now-immortal writers. The printed word has indeed become alive in that most vigorous and thrilling of literary eras." "Special! Original illustrations." Interior - previous owner's name on pencil in first page, approx. 1/4 of the pages have light to heavy creasing at the top corner, otherwise clean and tight with no other ownership marks. The law was powerless to resist them. Soon that place, too, lay at their mercy. But, as he lay wounded, the town marshal said to his son Shaun: ' T h e r e ' s o ne man who draws a gun faster than Guthrie....one man who can lead our people against him! He's a trail scout and folks call him Catsfoot....fetch him....fetch Catsfoot....' The quiet, gentle Catsfoot answered that call. So came ab ou t a te rr ib l e battle of wits and courage. A battle in which the ferocious Apache Indians were to take a decisive hand. This junior Western is told against the authentic background of ravaged Arizona in the years immediately after the Civi l W ar. .. ."
