In this book, from dawn to nightfall on June 18, 1815, hour by hour, sometimes minute by minute, we follow each twist of the a ct io n i n tu rn from: The English point of view (by William Seymour)...The French point of view (by Jacques Champagne)...The German point of view (by Eberhard Kaulbach)...As the action unfolds, each country's writer gives his own view (plus the won der fu ll y imm edi ate voices of his countrymen who survived to write of their experience) of the day that called forth some of the most brilliant tactical maneuvering - and the bloodiest and fiercest fighting - in the history of warfare." BRITISH REGULAR CAVALRY, 1644-1914., Cooper, Leonard.
6 Cooper, Leonard. BRITISH REGULAR CAVALRY, 1644-1914.
London Chapman & Hall 1965 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good
216 pp, 8vo (8 3/4"). Pictorial endpapers, b&w plates. "Mr. Cooper takes up his story with the formation of Cromwell's New Model Army, which marked a significant change in cavalry tactics, and closes it with a chapter devoted to the South African War and the years up to the beginning of the 1914 War. In addition, he has written an epilogue to cover the period of cavalry's gradual surrender to mechanisation. Between these points lie nearly three hundred years of history and countless battles which depended for their outcome on the ability and efficiency of the cavalry arm. (He) does not attempt to describe each of these battles in detail; rather, he is concerned, by giving accounts of a series of battles typical of a campaign, or of aspects of the training and tactics of cavalry - Blenheim, Dettingen, Salamanca, Waterloo, Balaclava, etc. - to give a historical impression of the arm's growth and achievements." Dust jacket has very light edge wrinkling, soft creasing at top of rear panel, faint foxing and browning .

9 Rubio, Mary & Waterston, Elizabeth, editors. (L.M. Montgomery - Lucy Maud Montgomery.) THE SELECTED JOURNALS OF L.M. MONTGOMERY. VOLUME II: 1910-1921.
Toronto Oxford University Press 1987 0195405862 / 9780195405866 Second Printing Hard Cover Very Good+ Very Good-
443 pp, 9 1/4" H. B&w photographs, maps. The second volume of 'The Selected Journals of L.M. Montgomery' "records a time of great change and upheaval both in Montgomery's life and in society. When she wrote the first entry in this volume she had recently become a world-famous author, having published 'Anne of Green Gables' in 1908. Here we become privy to her response to the death of her grandmother, who had restricted her life severely; her marriage and honeymoon trip to Scotland and England; and her departure from Prince Edward Island to the new restrictions of her life as the wife of a Presbyterian minister in an Ontario village. Montgomery reveals the intensities of friendship, the minutiae of home-making, the joys of motherhood along with the traumas of a disturbed marriage, and records the sources and composition of the 'Anne' series and the emergence of her new heroine 'Emily'. Besides learning about the rewards and trials - including two unpleasant lawsuits - of being a successful author, we see also how a sensitive woman responded to the possibility, the actuality, and the aftermath of a world war. By turns tart and sentimental, sharp-sighted and anxiety-ridden, L.M. Montgomery provides a compelling record of her remarkable life against the background - both social and literary - of a tumultuous period in Canadian history." Minor wrinkling at top/bottom of spine. Dust jacket has light edge wrinkling and a few tiny edge tears, light fading to spine color, wrinkling on rear panel.

THE SELECTED JOURNALS OF L.M. MONTGOMERY. VOLUME III: 1921-1929., Rubio, Mary & Waterston, Elizabeth, editors. (L.M. Montgomery - Lucy Maud Montgomery.)
10 Rubio, Mary & Waterston, Elizabeth, editors. (L.M. Montgomery - Lucy Maud Montgomery.) THE SELECTED JOURNALS OF L.M. MONTGOMERY. VOLUME III: 1921-1929.
Toronto Oxford University Press 1992 0195409361 / 9780195409369 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good
443 pp, 9 1/4" H. B&w photographs, maps. The third volume of 'The Selected Journals of L.M. Montgomery' reveals "Montgomery in mature mid-life, (as) her personal and professional lives are becoming even more complex. (She) juggles the demands of motherhood, parish obligations, indifferent household help, grief at the loss of older friends and family, appeals by her PEI clan for advice and assistance - everyday struggles to balance a woman's social and domestic duties. There are also triumphs and trials more closely related to her position as a best-selling author: growing fame, the successful midwifery of her new heroines 'Emily' and 'Marigold' and a more adult novel, 'The Blue Castle'; the struggle to allocate time for correspondence with publishers, fans, pen-friends - and actually to 'write'. We trace the happy conclusion of her lawsuits against an unscrupulous publisher, and the disappointing outcome of the tempest-in-a-teapot suit arising from a minor automobile accident. There are more personal worries: the Rev. Ewan Macdonald's envy of his wife's publishing and social success; the dark shadow cast by his recurrent attacks of religious melancholia; her concern lest their sons evince similar tendencies. In mid-decade, Ewan Macdonald accepts a call to Norval, Ontario and Montgomery leaves 'dear Leaskdale' with mixed feelings. In these years, LMM turns more and more to her journal to record insights and opinions not voiceable by 'the angel of the house', as well as the brief epiphanies of delight in nature's beauty that have always sustained her. Her journal is an important example of life-writing - writing in the autobiographical mode - by a complex, sensitive, successful, and suprisingly contemporary writer." Minor bumping/wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, scattered very tiny foxing marks on edges of text block. Dust jacket has light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, minor rubbing.
