New York Metropolitan Musem of Art / Simon & Schuster 1991 0671747754 / 9780671747756 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good+ Very Good+
128 pp, oblong large 8vo (9 1/2" H x 10 3/4" D). Decorated endpapers, profusely illustrated in color and b&w with photographs, reproductions. "Nothing captures the spirit of the Old West better than the jaunty tunes and classic ballads the cowboys and settlers sang, songs richly represented in this visually stunning volume. Panoramic in scope, the 45 songs, coupled with works of art from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Cody, Wyoming, chronicle the stirring saga of westward expansion and reflect every facet of life during one of the most exciting periods in our nation's history. The lore of the West intrigued many artists, and the works featured include paintings and sculpture by Frederic Remington, Charles M. Russell, and N.C. Wyeth, as well as a myriad of fascinating artifacts: saddles, spurs, guns, guitars, a stagecoach ticket, a Navajo blanket, and other objects that provide a vivid picture of life in the West. A lively and intriguing text further illuminates this bygone world, exploring the history of the songs, their lyrics, the accompanying art, and the development of the West. The music, arranged for beginning to intermediate musicians and accompanied by chords for the guitar or banjo, is suitable for piano, organ, violin, or recorder." Includes: Across the Wide Missouri; The Big Corral; Billy the Kid; Blood on the Saddle; The Boll Weevil; Bucking Bronco; Buffalo Gals; The Buffalo Hunters; Bury Me Not in the Lone Prairie; Cavalry Charge; Chopo; Cielito Lindo; Cindy; The Colorado Trail; Cotton-Eyed Joe; The Cowboy; Cowboy Jack; Cowboy Lullaby; The Cowboy's Lament; The Day of '49; Down in the Valley; Git Along, Little Doggies; Goodbye, Old Paint; Ho! 6 Bergstein, Rachelle. WOMEN FROM THE ANKLE DOWN: THE STORY OF SHOES AND HOW THEY DEFINE US.
New York Harper 2012 0061969613 / 9780061969614 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good Nami Matsuo Scott.
284 pp, 9 1/4" H. Small b&w illustrations. "What is it about a pair of shoes that so enchants women of all ages, demographics, political affiliations, and style tribes? Part social history, part fashion record, part pop-culture celebration, (this book) seeks to answer that question as it unfolds the story of shoes in the twentieth century. The tale begins in the rural village of Bonito, Italy, with a visionary young shoe-maker named Salvatore Ferragamo and ends in New York City with a fictional socialite and trend-setter named Carrie Bradshaw. Along the way it stops in Hollywood, where Judy Garland first slipped on her ruby slippers; New Jersey, where Nancy Sinatra heard something special in a song about boots; and the streets of Manhattan, where a transit-worker strike propelled women to step into cutting-edge athletic shoes. Beginnng with the well-heeled suffragettes in the 1910s, women have fought for greater freedom and mobility, a struggle that exploded in the 1960s with the women's liberation move-ment and culminated in the new millenium with our devotion to personal choice. Featuring interviews with designers, historians, and cultural experts, and a cast of real-life characters, from Marilyn Monroe to Jane Fonda, from Gwen Stefani to Manolo Blahnik, (it) is a lively, compelling look at the evolution of modern woman and the fashion that reflects - and has shaped - their lives." Light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine - also tiny tear at top of spine. Dust jacket has light edge wear/wrinkling at top of hinges, minor rubbing.

307 pp, 4to (11 1/4" H), hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 0935553487 B&w photographs, maps. **VOLUME 1 ONLY**. "The air war on the Eastern Front in World War II was history's largest and longest air campaign. Nevertheless, it has been one of the least known and least understood chapters of aviation history. This is because earlier publications on this immense subject have been based on material taken almost exclusively from the German side. (The 4 volume set, of which this is Volum e 1 ) i s to be the most complete and detailed series ever published on the air war on the Eastern Front. It presents for the first time a true balance between German and Soviet accounts. (The authors) have undertaken a huge research effort to g le a n th e t rue events of this air war. Thanks to their painstaking research and brilliant analysis of German archival material, some of the first Soviet Air Force records ever to be seen in the West, and new information from German and Soviet a irm en , the y are able to present many valuable insights into the vast Eastern Front aerial struggle." Section headings in this volume: The Enemies; Background of a Disaster; Sunday, June 22, 1941; The Swan Song of the Red Bombers; Lightning War; Rec ove ry of th e Re d Air Force; "The Greatest Battle of All Time"; The Arctic Front; Fall of 1941: Stiffening Resistance; Barbarossa's Last Gasp; The Death of Barbarossa; Conclusions; Appendices; Notes; Sources. ABORIGINAL MYTHS., Bozic, Sreten. In conjunction with Alan Marshall.
11 Bozic, Sreten. In conjunction with Alan Marshall. ABORIGINAL MYTHS.
Melbourne Gold Star 1972 0726001139 / 9780726001130 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good
143 pp, 8 5/8" H. Profusely illustrated with colour photographs. "Alan Marshall is called 'Gurawilla' or 'Song maker' by the natives of Arnhem Land. He and Sreten Bozic have studied the few remaining nomadic aboriginal tribes in Australia and have come to love and admire their culture. This book is the result of their knowledge of, and respect for, a race which had and still has vastly different - and perhaps superior - ideals from those of the white invaders who commandeered their lives and land. For, until the advent of the white man, the Aboriginals lived in complete accord with nature. Australian tribal society was uniquely a-materialistic and egalitarian, and was characterized by a rich ceremonial culture and religious life. It emphasised mystical communion with the environment rather than individual achievement and the glorification of human prowess. Human life was always considered to be part of the natural cycle and the happiness and gentleness of Aboriginal society indicates the worth of a traditional naturalistic culture. These myths, the foundation of Australia's ancient cultural past, must live again in their fulness. Perhaps this book may help such a rejuvenation and create just a little understanding." Small Christmas gift inscription on front pastedown, very light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, minor edge wear. Dust jacket has light edge wear/wrinkling - mainly at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds.
