In this book, from dawn to nightfall on June 18, 1815, hour by hour, sometimes minute by minute, we follow each twist of the a ct io n i n tu rn from: The English point of view (by William Seymour)...The French point of view (by Jacques Champagne)...The German point of view (by Eberhard Kaulbach)...As the action unfolds, each country's writer gives his own view (plus the won der fu ll y imm edi ate voices of his countrymen who survived to write of their experience) of the day that called forth some of the most brilliant tactical maneuvering - and the bloodiest and fiercest fighting - in the history of warfare." Vancouver, British Columbia Douglas & McIntyre 2008 1553654129 / 9781553654124 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good+ Very Good+
379 pp, large 8vo (9 1/4" H). B&w and colour illustrations (maps, plates). "(T)he story of the Siege of Quebec and its climax, the Battle of the Plains of Abraham. A brief bloody affair, it brought a brutal end to the Seven Years' War in North America, the first truly global conflict - and the first truly modern one - waged against civilians and cities as well as soldiers and fortifications. This is a story of strategy, generals and geopolitics - and ordinary people. A British sailor, an American irregular, a French officer, a Huron warrior, a nun who tended the wounded; their impressions, captured in letters and journals, give us a new, more human view of the battle, one often absent from the history books. By day's end September 13 (1759), Wolfe was dead and Montcalm dying, the British victorious and the French on the run. France's New World empire was finished. The battle was over, but the musket volleys fired that morning continue to echo through our world. The hardships of North America's First Nations, the birth of Canada, and the rise of the United States can all be traced to that morning's actions. Our world was created on that field 250 years ago. Very small bump at bottom of spine. Dust jacket has minor rubbing, very small wrinkle at bottom of spine.

Its many pictures provide a panoramic view of the province's architecture from the late 18th century to the Victorian era. Its text combines architectural description with the story of some of the people who built and used these buildings, including (no doubt) some local folkore along the way.
