270 pp, 9 1/4" H. "September 1972. University of Toronto Law School. 150 students They came from across Canada - rich kids, middle class kids, and students who worked at night and on weekends to pay their fees. For some, law school was a stepping stone in a carefully thought-out career plan; others were there because they thought they'd give law school a whirl. Twenty percent of the group were women, a peak ratio at the time. They studied together for three years, working hard, being challenged by their teachers, by new ideas, and by each other. Each found a way through the maze of courses, cases, debates and exams. Then they fanned out across the country to careers as diverse as their beginnings. 1991. Judges, corporate lawyers, sole practitioners, tax specialists, labour lawyers, criminal lawyers, parliamentarians - . Jack Batten has found twenty-seven members of the class that graduated in 1975 and interviewed them at length to find out what they've been up to since." Book is clean. LOUIS WAIN'S CATS., Beetles, Chris. With contributions from Rodney Dale and David Wootton.
4 Beetles, Chris. With contributions from Rodney Dale and David Wootton. LOUIS WAIN'S CATS.
Cambridge Worth Press 2011 1849310262 / 9781849310260 First Edition Hard Cover Fine Very Good+ Louis Wain.
256 pp, square small 10to (10 1/4" H x 10 1/4" D). Profusely illustrated with colour and b&w reproductions of Wain's art. "During their heyday, in the time before the First World War, Louis Wain's cats, dressed as humans, portrayed (the) stylish Edwardian world having fun; at restaurants and tea parties, going to the Races and the Seaside, celebrating Christmas and Birthdays, and disporting themselves with exuberant games of tennis, bowls, cricket and football. This is a titillating world of cats at play, uninhibited and slightly dangerous, with most group activities likely to turn into mishap, mayhem and catastrophe. This is Wain's world, funny, edgy and animated; a whole cat world. The first comprehensive exhibition of Wain's work was held at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London in 1972 and, since then, Louis Wain has steadily become more fashionable and collected worldwide. This new biography will show many images for the first time ever, amongst 300 plates of richness and variety, all of which are reproduced faithfully from the original artwork." Dust jacket has tiny wrinkles at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, a few slight wrinkles on front flap

16 Gagnon, Georgette and Rath, Dan. NOT WITHOUT CAUSE: DAVID PETERSON'S FALL FROM GRACE.
Toronto HarperCollins 1991 0002158426 / 9780002158428 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good+ Very Good+
408 pp, 9 1/2" H. B&w photographs. "The stunning defeat of David Peterson's powerful Liberal government on September 6, 1990 broke many of the old rules for Canadian elections - and provided the first glimpse of how future elections will be fought. At the center of the story: Liberal leader David Peterson. Young, handsome and rich, he embodied the glory years of the 1980s when Yuppies, BMWs and image politics ruled. His decision to 'go early', to call an election only three years into his mandate, set the wheels in motion. His campaign attracts some of Canada's leading political players: campaign chair Kathy Robinson, whose pivotal position becomes a hotseat as the Liberal slide begins; former Trudeau pollster Martin Goldfarb, anxious to keep a Liberal government in power; David MacNaughton, Goldfarb critic and rival; Bob Nixon, the tough and respected treasurer faced with scuttling his balanced budget in a last-ditch vote-buying attempt; aide Vince Borg, Peterson's long-time friend, who tries to protect the premier from protesters and Liberals alike. These key players and an army of policy experts, strategists, party members, candidates and reporters tangle and clash in the race for power. (The) gripping account of how the Peterson Liberals did not anticipate or prepare for the new trends emerging in Canada's electoral process: the increasing power of special-interest groups, campaign strategies that attack incumbents without offering alternatives, negative advertising, the critical importance of perceptions and the media, an electorate with declining party allegiances and the rise of non-traditional parties. It's also the reavealing tale of how Ontario's New Democratic and Progressive Conservative parties ran campaigns that became a perfect match for the volatile mood of voters." Remainder mark on bottom of text block at spine. Dust jacket has very minor wrinkling at top of spine.

20 Henderson, Paul. With Mike Leonetti. SHOOTING FOR GLORY.
Toronto Stoddart 1992 0773726462 / 9780773726468 Second Printing Hard Cover Very Good Very Good Inscribed By Author
211 pp, 9 1/4" H. Inscribed on title page: "Best Wishes Rob / Paul Henderson". B&w photographs. "(Paul Henderson) tells the story of the first Canada-Soviet Union series that kept Canadians riveted to their radios and televisions. Although the 1972 series was the highlight of his career, (he) has a lot more to tell. As a Detroit Red Wing, he played with such greats as Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, and Ted Lindsay and experienced the heartache of being on the losing side in two Stanley Cup finals. Dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1968, he found himself on the ice with the team that had won the Leaf's last Cup the previous year, skating alongside Dave Keon, Tim Horton, George Armstrong, and Ron Ellis. Participating in one of the game's golden eras, Henderson had the privilege of locking horns with the likes of Phil Esposito, Bobby Orr, and Bobby Hull. And, like Hull, he, too, jumped to the World Hockey Association, where he witnessed the arrival of Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, and a new breed of superstar. Finally, Henderson describes the difficult transition he and all professional athletes must face when retirement inevitably comes." Previous owner's place and signature on front free endpaper, scattered tiny faint foxing marks on top of text block, minor wrinkling at top of spine, tiny dent on bottom edge of front board. Dust jacket has light edge wear/wrinkling, very light rubbing.
