4 Blake, Steve and Lloyd, Scott. With John Baldock. THE KEYS TO AVALON: THE TRUE LOCATION OF ARTHUR'S KINGDOM REVEALED.
Shaftesbury, Dorset Element 2000 1862047359 / 9781862047358 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good+ Very Good
302 pp, 9 1/2" H. B&w maps, family trees, decorations, colour and b&w photographs. "(The authors) unearth the truth about King Arthur and the magical realm of Avalon. They reveal how, through their investigations, they traced original key documents which had lain neglected for centuries. By combining the ancient sources with an intimate knowledge of the British landscape, they have managed to cast new light on the Dark Ages. Every piece of the puzzle they have put together fits - perfectly. The authors prove that the stories about Arthur and Avalon are rooted firmly within historical events which took place within a precise geographical setting in Wales; they also expose how and to what ends Arthurian legend has been hijacked for political gain throughout the ages. By establishing the historical facts about Arthur, his knights and the exact location of Avalon, (they) rip away the tissue of fabrication and fairy-tale that has shrouded the true origins of the British people and of anyone claiming ancestry from these isles." Book is very slightly cocked. Dust jacket has minor wrinkling at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, very minor edge wear, minor browning at inside edges, minor rubbing.

New York Counterpoint 2007 158243154X / 9781582431543 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good+ Very Good+
270 pp, large 8vo (9 1/2" H). "After spending the greater part of a decade traveling around the island of Newfoundland, at 'the edge of North America', beloved nature writer and host of an NPR radio series Robert Finch chronicles the people, geography, and wildlife of this remote and lovely place. From the shear cliffs of Cape Spear overlooking the Atlantic, the beaches of Sandy Cove (about eight miles by road from Squid Tickle), the steep streets of St. John's, and the moss-covered tundra of the southern coast, Finch carefully collects the intimate stories of birds and moose and foxes - and the people who share their space. He evokes an untrammeled landscape of raw beauty even as he tells a tale of economic hardship, with the local cod fisheries deplete and very little industry to replace it. Finch's ear is finely attuned to the vernaclar of Newfoundlander's stories; he revels in the particular cadences and unexpected movement of their tales. With a boundless curiosity, a profound appreciation for the beauty of everyday life and prose as hospitable and full of good humor as the people he encounters, Finch brings alive a wide array of characters - fishermen, hunters and hitchhikers, newcomers and old timers - and an island tucked between provinces, languages, and cultures, a land of ancient hardship and stirring beauty." Slight bump at top of spine. Dust jacket has minor edge wrinkling - mainly at top of spine.

THE TOWN OF YORK 1793-1815: A COLLECTION OF DOCUMENTS OF EARLY TORONTO., Firth, Edith G., edited and with introduction by.
19 Firth, Edith G., edited and with introduction by. THE TOWN OF YORK 1793-1815: A COLLECTION OF DOCUMENTS OF EARLY TORONTO.
Toronto Champlain Society for Government of Canada/University of Toronto Press 1962 Hard Cover Very Good Very Good-
368 pp, large 8vo (9 1/2" H). Red cloth with gold lettering/banding on spine. "(T)ells the history of the town of York (Toronto) from the arrival of John Graves Simcoe in 1793 through the War of 1812 until news of the peace reached its citizens in the spring of 1815. The selection of contemporary documents attempts to show why York was chosen for a settlement in the first place, the kind of community that developed, and the effect of the War on that community. Apart from the normal problems connected with the establishment of any settlement, the officials of the town of York were faced with the necessity of creating a worthy capital city for Upper Canada at a time when Kingston, because of its pre-eminence as the military and naval centre of the province and its commercial prosperity, overhadowed all other settlements. The book also illustrates the gradual integration into a corporate body of many diverse elements - senior government officials, discharged soldiers, tradesmen, labourers - so that by 1815 the characteristics of modern Toronto were beginning to be evident in York. This collection of documents and the editor's very full Introduction will provide the student of local history with much primary material and the general reader with an interesting account of the early years of the modern metropolis of Toronto. Minor wear at corners, 50% of text block edges are lightly browned. Dust jacket is price-clipped, has one or two tiny edge chips and tears, light edge creases at top of rear panel, light edge wear/wrinkling, very light rubbing.

Baton Press, Tunbridge Wells, 1984, first edition.
135 pp, large 8vo (9 7/8" H), hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 0859361551 B&w photographs, drawings, reproductions, plans. "....deals with the storming of Badajoz, an epic action of the Peninsular War, which involved Wellington's infantry in some of the most savage hand-to-hand fighting of the whole Peninsular period. At appalling cost, in a nightmare battle which lasted throughout the night of the 6th April 1812, they hacked their way over the bodies of their dead and through the forbiddin g medieval walls, which were held with great courage and skill by a brave French and German garrison. Having successfully stormed the breaches, the battle-crazed army went berserk and the horrors of the sacking which followed, as much as t h e s u b l i m e courage of the attackers, have passed into legend. This account, drawn wholly from the vivid descriptions of the officers and common soldiers who fought at Badajoz, is the first to be written exclusively about the siege, the st or mi ng , a nd t he s ho cking events which followed." Previous owners small stamp on front pastedown, faint erased pencil check marks on the two bibliography pages, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine. Dust jacket is price clipped, has ver y l igh t e dg e w rin kli ng, mi nor edge wear, minor rubbing. VG+/VG
