"(E)xplores the genius of an artist whose work has been influenced by symbolism and his own intrinsic spirituality. Morrisseau is one of Canada's foremost artists and the acknowledged founder of the Woodland Indian School of Artists. Although his roots lie in the Ojibway culture, his genius as a creative painter defy classification. Stories of rituals, ceremonies and magical godlike creatures come to life on canvas, as do the visions, dreams and inspirations Morrisseau experiences, because, as he tells us, a shaman-artist is endowed with special spiritual powers. More than 130 color reproductions of paintings and prints, as well as numerous drawings and other pirctures in b&w, accompanied, wherever possible, by legends and lore connected with the heritage of an ancient culture." Extra postage will be required outside of Canada and the United States for this heavy volume. Book is slightly bowed, approx. 1" of damp staining to cloth at top edge of boards not effecting text block. Dust jacket has some tiny indentations and faint line indentations on front panel, a few very small line indentations on rear panel, very light rubbing, slight toning to white lettering on spine and top letter on front panel, some minor darkening to top inside edge.
