266 pp, 9 1/4" H. "Werewolves are human beings who through magic change into animal form and lust for the flesh of other humans or animals. The tradition of werewolves goes back to the dawn of history and it is found in countries all over the world. There is even a scientific term for it - Lycanthropy - which denotes the magical transformation of man into beast or the belief that such changes take place. In this book, (first published in 1865, the author) advances as an explantion of werewolves, a theory of an innate cruelty and blood lust in mankind, dimly veiled by civilization." Chapter headings: Lycanthropy among the Ancients; The Were-wolf in the North; The Origin of the Scandinavian Were-wolf; The Were-wolf in the Middle Ages; A Chapter of Horrors; Jean Grenier; Folk-lore Relating to Were-wolves; Natural Causes of Lycanthropy; Mythological Origin of the Were-wolf Myth; The Marechal De Retz - I. EARTH EAGLES., Bayliss, Marguerite. Drawings by Norman Reeves.
2 Bayliss, Marguerite. Drawings by Norman Reeves. EARTH EAGLES.
Henry Holt, New York, 1947.
53 pp, large 8vo (9 1/2" H), hard cover in dust jacket. Green & white illustrations. "This is a moonlit story that belongs to time-to-be. It has a horseman named Esme O'Hara, two spirited fillies named Rainbow and Golden Ripple, and it has fair K entucky for its setting. Here in a soft summer night 'the fastest horses that ever ran on earth ran the race of races'. Only a great lover of horses, blessed with understanding of that noble breed, blessed with skill in words and touched w i t h m y s t icism could portray the wonder of that race. No man had ever seen before or would see again such a contest; the contenders are Rainbow, crippled, unable to race and dead of a broken heart - and Golden Ripple, Rainbow's twin, in th e z en it h o f he r tr aining, primed for winning and alive as an electric spark. They raced in the summer moonlight, swift, rhythmic, and beautifully they raced - not horses, but earth eagles. They raced as they had when they were glossy foals, a s c ham pio ns , fo r p le asu re, until they found rest and peace together. If you love horses, read this; if you love Irishmen, read this; if you have a feeling for imaginative words, read 'Earth Eagles'." Two tiny ring dints on free rear end pap er, two tiny sp ec ks on r ear pas tedown, light edge wear to boards. Dust jacket has light edge wear, several very small chips, light rubbing soiling - mainly on rear panel, darkening to flap-folds and edges, two tears at top of front panel - ta ped on i nside . 5 Dunn, Laurence. MERCHANT SHIPS OF THE WORLD 1910-1929 IN COLOR.
New York Macmillan 1975 First American Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good- Laurence Dunn.
215 pp, small 8vo (7 3/4" H). "The period covered by (this) volume was one of spectacular development and dramatic contrast. The First World War brought to an end a period of intense competition - competition reflected in a rapid increase in the size of individual liners. Later, during the twenties, a more restrained style emerged, less lavishly appointed and more suited to a less-affluent world. The styles of these two eras, separated by the anonymous, camouflage-conscious years of the war, were quite distinct, the post-war years bringing in a range of new shapes and profiles in funnels and sterns." "A special feature is the 80 pages of color plates by the author, which supply a unique coverage of details such as liveries, funnel marks, and houseflags." Light waviness to edges of text block, light browning to edges of text pages. Dust jacket has light browning at edges, some very light edge wrinkling, very light rubbing, a few tiny dints on panels, two tiny perforations on front flap-fold, several small light liquid marks on bottom inside edge of front panel.

Chicago Rand McNally 1958 Hard Cover Very Good Good- Wesley Dennis.
173 pp, large 8vo (9 3/4" H). Colour pictorial endpapers, b&w illustrations. "The glorious turf record of Black Gold could almost have been foretold from three things: the character of U-see-it, his diminutive mother who was the pride of the Osage Indians; the single-purposed and inscrutable mind of her owner, Al Hoots; and the intensity of the Irish boy, Jaydee Mooney, who had no peace until he and he alone could ride Black Gold to glory. "...tells the story of Buckingham Palace through the reigns of seven British monarchs, describing how and why it was built and the purposes for which it has been used since its foundation. It traces the history of the Palace from its earliest origins as the private home of Sir William Blake, erected in 1623 on a site that was formerly the scene of a rowdy, disreputable pleasure-garden. And it reacalls three centuries of replanning and rebuilding from which emerged the Palace that today is the premier residence of the British Royal Family...this is not the impersonal history of a building...it is the warm, human story of all the people who, through the years, have helped to make the Palace what it is today - from architects to ambassadors, from statemen to stonemasons, from kings and queens to kitchen maids and cabinet-makers..." 1 1/2" split to paper on inside front hinge, some very light browning to endpapers, slight small bump to corners, light foxing marks on edges of textblock, very light browning to edges of spine and boards. 252 pp, 11 1/4" H. Profusely illustrated with b&w photographs, maps, reproductions, scale drawings. "In 1901 the Canadian Pacific Railway Company acquired control of the pioneering Canadian Pacific Navigation Company which for 20 years had provided the principal steamship services for the British Columbia coast and a major link between Puget Sound and Alaska. Within a few years, the CPR transformed the CPN's assortment of outdated coastal freighters, passenger steamers, and ancient paddlewheelers into a modern fleet of luxurious coastal liners - the Princess ships - offering unprecedented services to Washington State, British Columbia, and southern Alaska. The CPR's palatial intercity liners of the famed Triangle Route between Seattle, Victoria and Vancouver captured the public eye but there were other less renowned aspects of the Princess fleet's history that could not go unrecorded: the coastal freighters; the tugs; the riverboats of the lower Fraser River; the war services of the 'Princess Kathleen' and 'Princess Marguerite'; the CPR's Atlantic Princesses; the pioneering automobile ferry 'Motor Princess', and the competition of Puget Sound Navigation, Grand Trunk Pacific, Union Steam, Canadian National, Black Ball, and finally, British Columbia Ferries."
