Motivate, (Dubai, UAE, 1992).
348 pp, large 8vo (9" H), hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 1873544464 B&w photos, maps. "Desert Storm was a war like no other. Fought with weapons of a sophistication beyond anything previously displayed in battle, against a ruthless dictator who se invastion of Kuwait had been universally condemned, it was a conflict waged with an unparalleled sense of international common purpose. Under the fierce glare of world media attention, commanders had to be appointed to manage a highly v o l a t i l e s ituation - with hostages shielding Saddam Hussein's military installations, Iraq's breached trade sanctions needing enforcement, the constant threat of chemical warfare and the Coalition's objectives gradually shifting from defence to o ff en ce .. .( T hi s book) is the fascinating, revelatory chronicle of war from the Allied nerve centre, analysing the American's brilliant execution of the air and the land campaigns. It shows in riveting details how the British commander i nsi ste d o n t ran sfe rri ng hi s ground forces to a more crucial sector of the battlefield and how he persuaded Schwarzkopf to deploy the SAS in the western desert of Iraq. It is also the portrait of an exceptional commander in action..." Smal l fa int stic ker mark on fron t p aste down, wrinkling at top of spine. WEAPONS FREE. THE STORY OF A GULF WAR HELICOPTER PILOT., Boswell, Richard. Foreword by General Sir Peter de la Billiere.
2 Boswell, Richard. Foreword by General Sir Peter de la Billiere. WEAPONS FREE. THE STORY OF A GULF WAR HELICOPTER PILOT.
Crecy, (Manchester, 1998).
216 pp, large 8vo (9 7/8" H), hard cover in dust jacket. B&w and color photographs. "In September 1990 Richard Boswell was a newly qualified helicopter pilot in the Royal Navy, fresh out of flight school and flying one of the most potent fighting helicopters in the world - the Westland Lynx. The world was at his feet in every sense. Then, on the day he and his girlfriend decided to buy a house together, Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. With less than 24 hours notice, Richard Boswell was onboard HMS Manchester and en-route to the Gulf and impending war. Once in the Gulf, HMS Manchester prepared for the seaborne invasion that most thought was inevitalbe. Boswell saw action against Iraqi forces, protecting Allied ships and sinking a number of Iraqi gunboats. After the liberation of Kuwait, he flew extensively around the devastated country, when his duties included a spell as pilot for Sir Peter de la Billiere. But his story does not end there. After returning to the UK , Boswell became an instructor and also indulged his passion for flying home-built aircraft, a passion that led to the accident that nearly killed him and ended his days as a Navy pilot. The portrayal of the battle to rebuilt his shattered life is every bit as graphic as his wartime experiences in the Gulf." Minor wrinkling at top of spine - very light at bottom. Dust jacket has light wrinkling at bottom of spine. VG+/VG+

F-15 EAGLE., Braybrook, Roy.
3 Braybrook, Roy. F-15 EAGLE.
Osprey, London, 1991, first edition.
128 pp, 11 7/8" H, hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 1855321491 Profuesly illustrated with colour photographs. "Built to counter the seemingly invincible Soviet MiG-25 Foxbat, the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle has proven to be more than a match for any 'red' fighter interceptor for over 15 years. Carrying the all-seeing Hughes AN/APG-63 radar inside its massive radome, the interception capabilities of the Eagle have been matched only by its US Navy rival, the F-14 Tomcat. Although a large ae roplane, the Eagle is incredibly agile, with plenty of power from its twin afterburning Pratt & Whitney F-100 tubrofans. These allow a pilot to exploit the F-15 Eagle's suberb in-flight characteristics to the fullest extent. Entering frontline s q u adron service with the USAF's Tactical Air Command in late 1974, the F-15 has gone on to equip no less than six tactical fighter wings based in the USA, and one apiece in Germany and Japan. Five Air National Guard units also bolster the fron t li ne r anks with earlier version of the mighty Eagle. All USAF operators of the potent F-15 are graphically featured in this stunning volume. A chapter on the rarely illustrated Japanese Air Self-Defence Force complements the star-spangled F-1 5s ." Mi nor edge wear, small faint erasure mark at top of free front endpaper. Dust jacket has very light rubbing, some areas of light wrinkling at top edge. Very Good-/Very Good

165 pp, large 8vo (9 5/8" H), hard cover in dust jacket. Profusely illustrated with color and b&w photographs, drawings. 'Part Two of the book shows that many of the species survive. Part One, on the other hand, is an attempt to look at the aircraft from a different angle, not so much the fighter pilot's glamorous view but the day-to-day operations, trials and tribulations and the joys and delights of a ground crew struggling to come to terms with an aircraft that was, in many ways, a quantum leap in technology. A delight to fly, a joy to watch and a menace to work on - these sentiments seem to sum up the Lightning." TAB, Blue Ridge Summit, PA, 1991, first edition.
160 pp, 11" H, soft cover. ISBN 0830630783 B&w and colour photographs, maps. "During the air campaign of Operation Desert Storm, the only thing more incessant than the bombing was the technically inaccurate reporting of the news media. This unfo rtunate dissemination of erroneous information led to misconceptions about what was happening in the most unique chapter in the history of aerial combat. Here, for the first time, is an accurate, close-up, and detailed look at the high-tech war f a r e played out in the skies over Iraq and Kuwait. Using terminology anyone can understand, (the author) explains the concepts and strategies that were used to plan and execute the most successful air campaign in history. Kinzey provides a wea lt h of i nformation, including: How the air campaign was actually planned and carried out; All of the major types of aircraft used by the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Marines, and Army; Aircraft armament, with a detailed look at the missiles and precisio n-g ui ded mu nitions or 'smart bombs' that were used with such effectiveness; The Tomahawk, or TLAM cruise missile; Each of the eight aircraft carriers that participated in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm; The tactics used to find and des troy th e Sc ud m issiles; The air-to-air victories by the coalition aircraft (including a complete list of confirmed kills); Why the Iraqi Air Force 'ran for the border' instead of posing a threat to coalition forces; Why the news media made so ma ny te chni cal m istak es while trying to report on the war effort; The real reason why the B-1 bomber and other combat aircraft were not used in Operation Desert Storm." DIVERS. FROM PIPER ALPHA TO THE GULF WAR., May, Jon.
13 May, Jon. DIVERS. FROM PIPER ALPHA TO THE GULF WAR.
Coronet / Hodder and Stoughton, London, 1996.
245 pp, mass market paperback. ISBN 0340649062 B&w drawings. " Jon May is a paramedic who is also trained to control deep sea dive systems attached to the world's oil industry. This is his own true story, starting in the holocaust that was the P iper Alpha disaster and taking him from the North Sea to cleaning up offshore after the Kuwait War, to Bombay, the South China Sea and Vietnam. The work of the men who descend to great depths to difuse mines, check pipelines, and clear underwate r d isaster areas is described with absorbing documentary realism and a degree of gallows humour. From helping rescue a skipper trapped below deck on a sinking ship to treating a latterday victim of mustard gas, Jon May tells a story that is the s tu f f of so much fiction, but for knife-edged excitement there is nothing to beat the truth."
