5 Cremony, John C. LIFE AMONG THE APACHES.
New York Indian Head Books 1991 0880296526 / 9780880296526 Facsimile Reprint. Hard Cover Near Fine Very Good+
322 pp, 8vo (8 1/2" H). Facsimile reprint of 1868 edition. From the Introduction: "We have never striven to make ourselves intelligently acquainted with (the various tribes occupying the vast region which extends from the Colorado river on the west, to the settlements of Texas on the east, and from Taos in New Mexico to Durango in the Mexican Republic). Nearly all that relates to them is quite as uncertain and indefinite to our comprehension as that which obtains in the center of Africa. Those who were best informed on the matter, and had given it the closest attention, were, at the time - most unfortunately - the least capable of imparting their information; while those who were ignorant of the subject have been the most forward to give the results of their fragmentary gleanings. If this volume shall have the effect of bettering our present deplorable Indian policy, by letting in some light, it will accomplish the author's object." The author was "Interpreter to the U.S. Boundary Commission, under the Hon. John R. Bartlett, in 1849, '50 and '51, and late Major of California Volunteer Cavalry, operating in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Western Arkansas." Dust jacket has a few areas of very minor edge wrinkling.

FLASHMAN AND THE REDSKINS. FROM THE FLASHMAN PAPERS, 1849-50 AND 1875-76., Fraser, George MacDonald. Dust jacket art by Barbosa.
9 Fraser, George MacDonald. Dust jacket art by Barbosa. FLASHMAN AND THE REDSKINS. FROM THE FLASHMAN PAPERS, 1849-50 AND 1875-76.
Collins, London, 1982, first edition.
479 pp, 8vo (8 1/2" H), hard cover in dust jacket. Map endpapers. "When the tide of battle surged over the slopes of Little Bighorn, and Sitting Bull's braves gathered for the final charge that would sweep away the gallant remnant of Custer's 7th Cavalry, a clarion voice was heard above the crash of shots and whistle of arrows, the war-whoops and the pounding hooves: - Readers of his previous adventures will not fail to identify the speaker, or to recognise the tall, distinguished figure in evening dress, tails and whiskers, fleeing the stricken field: Sir Harry Flashman, V.C., veteran of countless retreats from battle and bedchamber, the most decorated coward of the Victorian age, was meeting his fate with the same matchless poltroone ry and deafness to duty and decency which had sustained him through a lifetime of dishonourable service, and endeared him to a generation of readers. But how the arch-cad of Dr Arnold's Rugby found himself in the climactic struggle of the Ame r i c a n West is only one chapter in an odyssey as hair-raising and scandalous as any in his six earlier volumes of memoirs. He traces it with his usual shameless candour and caustic humour, from the wagon-trains of the Forty-Niners, when he foug ht h is t er r ified way across the Plains in command of a bordello on wheels, to the holocaust of Bent's Fort and the horrors of scalp-hunting raids, Apache warpaths, dinner parties with Custer, captivity among the Sioux, confrontations with Pres ide nt Gra nt and W ild Bill Hickock, duels, escapes, conspiracies, and shoot-outs - to say nothing of passionate encounters with Indian belles, dusky beauties, enthusiastic widows, and mysterious adventuresses. This is Flashy's West as only he ca n de scr ibe it - th e W est, at once legendary and authentic, of Mangas Colorado and Kit Carson, of Custer and Spotted Tail, of Crazy Horse and the Deadwood stage, a pageant of savage warriors and Mountain Men, glory-hunting soldiers and gunfighter s, ga mble rs, ecc entri cs, scoundrels, and those extraordinary folk, white and Indian, who broke the trails or resisted the invasion." Book slightly cocked, minor wrinkling at top/bottom of spine/hinges, very light speckles of foxing on top of te xt blo ck. Dust jac ket ha s be en price clipped, has minor edge wear/wrinkling, soft wrinkles at top edge of rear flap, light rubbing. Very Good-/Very Good

The goal was to send a second crew into deep space but this time with the fully equipped hardware that would be required for a lunar landing. Veteran astronauts Commander Tom Staff o r d and Lunar Module Pilot Gene Cernan were to fly tantalisingly close to the barren lunar surface - a mere eight nautical miles, while Command Module Pilot John Young would be required to conduct the first rendezvous in lunar orbit to ensure the s af e return of his crew mates. 'Apollo 10 The NASA Mission Reports' finally puts in one place four of the most important documents from this auspicious flight, The Apollo 10 Press Kit, The Apollo 10 Pre-Launch Mission Operation Report, The Apoll o 1 0 P os t Launch Mission Operation Report and The Apollo 10 Post Launch Mission Operation Report Supplement. For the interest of collectors, students or historians alike (this book) follows the final test flight of Apollo through a series of ast onis hing te chnological accomplishments including the accurate measurement of distortions in the moon's gravitational field which would finally pave the way for man's first landing on another world."
