1 Durrell, Lawrence. COLLECTED POEMS.
London Faber and Faber 1960 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good
288 pp, 8vo (8 1/16" H). "It is primarily as a lyrical poet and a poet of places that (Durrell) is acknowledged to excel, but now that he has assembled in (this book) 'all that the author wishes to preseve' it will be found that the range of feeling and ideas, of wit and experience, and also of style, is remarkable. The poems have been arranged by the author himself, not in chronological order but according to their various kinds. Mr. Durrell is a romantic poet in an age of didactic and sectarian poetry; and by temperament and choice Mediterranean rather than Nordic. All those who have acquired an ear for his verse by reading the volumes in which it has been published, and all those seriously interested in the poetry of the 'thirties, the 'forties and the 'fifties, will wish to have his 'Collected Poems'; other readers will come to it from his novels or his island books." Previous owner's small name stamp at top of front/rear pastedowns - underneath the dust jacket flaps, light toning to top edge of textblock, very light edge wear, very light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine. Small puncture to dust jacket at the last 'e' in Lawrence (see scan), minor wear at top/bottom of flap-folds a few small browning marks at top edge. Dust jacket now protected by removable mylar sleeve.

226 pp, 8vo (8 1/2" H), soft cover. ISBN 0937938394 "For almost two thousand years Nagarjuna's teachings have occupied a central position in Mahayana Buddhism. An essential part of the study and practice in the great Indian Buddhist monastic univ ersities, these teachings were later incorporated into the Tibetan monastic programs which modeled their curricula on their Indian predecessors. This volume contains a translation of a fundamental work of Nagarjuna, along with a new commen t a r y o n i t by Geshe Sonam Rinchen which, while based on traditional sources, was created expressly for the contemporary English reader. In addition, David Komito summarizes those basic Buddhist doctrines on perception and the creation of con ce pt s wh i ch h a ve traditionally served as the backrop for Nagarjuna's teachings about how people consistently misperceive and misunderstand the nature of the reality in which they live and the means through which they experience it. This boo k w ill b e o f int ere st to practitioners and scholars of Buddhism as well as psychologists who seek a deeper understanding of Buddhist psychology and epistemology." WHERE TROY ONCE STOOD., Wilkens, Iman.
7 Wilkens, Iman. WHERE TROY ONCE STOOD.
St. Martin's, New York, 1991, first U.S. edition.
365 pp, large 8vo (9 7/16" H), hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 0312059949 Map endpapers, b&w maps, plans, drawings, reproductions. "Arguing, convincingly, that the 'Iliad' and the 'Odyssey' do not fit the topography, geology, climate, and oceanic tidal patterns of the eastern Mediterranean, Wilkens relocates the Homeric scene in western Europe and the northern Atlantic, revealing the precise site of Troy itself and the plain on which the Trojan War was fought. By examining the texts in det ail, Wilkens has identified over 400 place-names in western Europe and concludes that the original oral version was composed by Homer several hundred years before it was written down. He reveals that the Trojan War was fought on a far larger scale than previously thought, by Celts from regions as far apart as Scandinavia and Spain, and that the 'Odyssey' provided an oral map for illiterate Celtic seafarers - an extraordinary and enlightening journey into prehistory that is as exciting as the voyages of Odysseus. Thanks to Wilkens' patient detective work, many of the most puzzling aspects of Homer's epic poems now fall into place, enabling the reader - perhaps for the first time - to understand fully the meaning and significance of Euro pe's oldest literary masterpieces.' Very light dust soiling on top of textblock, minor soiling on bottom of textblock, very light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, minor edge wear at corners and at top/bottom of spine. Dust jacket has minor edge w ear, very light edge wrinkling, light creasing at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds and at bottom of front flap, light rubbing to glossy surfaces, very small faint scuff on rear panel.
