Imperial War Museum, (London, 1982).
191 pp, 8vo (8 3/4" H), hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 0901627224 Monotone drawings by Charles Freeman, b&w photographs, maps. "The author's experiences as a platoon commander in the Second World War were shared by many others but few published accounts capture so faithfully the particular flavour of that conflict or the impact of battle on the individual soldier. Norman Craig was a conscript, commissioned after a year in the ranks. He served in three infantry regiments: the Welch in the United Kingdom; the Royal Sussex in the Western Desert, and Iraq and Persia; and the East Surreys in Italy. He saw action at El Alamein and in northern Italy where, only a fortnight before the end of the war in Europe, he was wounded. B e t w e e n t h e se spells of fighting he was concerned with the routine of soldiering - training, parades, courses, inspections and regimental chores - which occupied the greater part of of a subaltern's time. Norman Craig writes perceptively an d wi th u nu su a l ca nd our about his war service. His book is both a personal record of considerable human interest and a significant addition to the literature of the Second World War." Minor wrinkling at top/bottom of spine. Dust jacket has m ino r e dge we ar/ wr in kli ng, minor soiling on front flap. VG+/VG+

ISBN 0771029772 "Around the world thoughtful people are asking one vital question: How could an unspeakable terrorist act carried out by a small group of Islamist zealots, most of them Saudi Arabian, result in w ar being declared on Iraq, a country with a brutal but firmly secular government that had no known connection with 9/11? Is it a grotesque mistake, a sinister plot, or just the strategic equivalent of a highway pileup? Far too many politician s a n d journalists who should know better have swallowed the story that Saddam Hussein is a threat to the West, that his weapons of mass destruction are about to fall into the hands of suicidal terrorist fanatics, and that we must invade Iraq bef or e t he B east of Baghdad eats us, hair and all. And too few observers have pointed out that the weapons are not very dangerous, that Saddam has been successfully contained for over a decade without a war, and that the emperor has not clothes - --" Int eri or - clean and tight with no previous ownership marks.
