MAGES OF GARILLON TRILOGY. BOOK I. THE BURNING STONE. BOOK II. THE GAUNTLET OF MALICE. BOOK III. SPIRAL OF FIRE. 3 VOLUME SET., Harris, Deborah Turner.
1 Harris, Deborah Turner. MAGES OF GARILLON TRILOGY. BOOK I. THE BURNING STONE. BOOK II. THE GAUNTLET OF MALICE. BOOK III. SPIRAL OF FIRE. 3 VOLUME SET.
New York TOR First Printings Mass Market Paperbacks Very Good
3 volume set - 6 3/4" H. 1. The Burning Stone - 307 pp, 1988, ISBN 0812539583 - "Caradoc has been expelled from the Order of Mage-Hospitallers despite his astonishing talent - because he cannot discipline himself as a mage must - but he has his mage-stone still in his possession! Borthen has uses of Caradoc, and the mage-stone. Margoth, Caradoc's sister, and Serdor, Caradoc's friend, wish to save Caradoc from descent into evil. Twynmira cares nothing for any of them - she only wishes to rule Garillon. And Evelake is an innocent boy, caught in an adventure far beyond his understanding." 2. The Gauntlet of Malice - 336 pp, 1988, ISBN 0812539567 - "Not only is Caradoc Penluathe a failed mage, now he is also a fugitive accused of murder. Delsidor Whitfauconer was fatally stabbed in Ambrothen Cathedral, and all signs point to Caradoc, and a malevolent misuse of magepower. Evelake Whitfauconer, son and heir to the murdered man, is in Caradoc's care. Evelake's mind has been removed and 'replaced' by Borthen Berigeld, in a first move to take control of Carillon. Caradoc, hunted and bereft of the mage-stone which is the source of his power and healing, must travel paths imbued with malignant hostility. With only his native talent and courage to keep him alive, Caradoc must bring young Evelake to sanity and safety." 3. Spiral of Fire - 468 pp, 1989, ISBN 0812539540 - Caradoc is now a great healer despite himself. In his long battle with Brothen Berigeld, master destroyer, (he) has lost much but has gained in maturity and strength. His greatest loss has been the lives of his friends. He has risked his own life - often - and he has seen the power of the Magia virtually destroyed. But now Berigeld has released a scourge upon the land which even he cannot control - a golden, fiery boy invested with the feral insatiability of a netherworld creature who calls himself, simply, the Devourer. Caradoc must go within himself - accompanied by his foulest enemy - if anything at all is to survive." Interiors - book I has large stamp from bookstore and previous owner's initials in ink on inside of front cover, book III has crease at bottom corner of page leaf 333/334, otherwise books clean and tight with no other ownership marks. Exteriors - book I has small crease at top corner of rear cover, a light soiling mark on fore-edge of text block, and three tiny dents on front cover; books I & II have a tiny single digit number stamped on bottom of text block; all books have light edge wear and light rubbing.

BRASSEY'S BOOK OF THE CRUSADES., Miller, David.
4 Miller, David. BRASSEY'S BOOK OF THE CRUSADES.
Washington, D.C. Brassey's 2001 1574882929 / 9781574882926 First American Edition Hard Cover Very Good+ Very Good+
128 pp, 11 1/4" H. "The crusades, of which there were several, conducted by many forcees from different nations, were ultimately unsuccessful, the last crusaders being forced out of the Holy Land in 1291. However, as this fascinating history shows, they did serve to advance many military concepts. Notable among these were the logistics involved in moving thousands of combined forces across frequently hostile regions; fortifications and siege warfare; and armour and weapons. There were heroes and villians, too - again on both sides - and examples of great generalship, military ineptitude, magnamity, and atrocity. The most notable leaders during these conflicts were Richard I, Lionheart, King of England, and the saracen commander, Saladin. While they never met, each had a justifiable respect for the other. This handsome volume encapsulates all the intriguing contrasts between the combatant forces, outlining the formation of the Christian Military Orders - such as the Knights Hospitallers - and the ferocious saracen armies. It describes the major weapons, such as siege machines, as well as personal arms and armour, and the important battles. Liberally illustrated with maps and diagrams, plus contemporary and other illustrations of the people, places and warfare, (this book) is a highly readable military history of a period and events that have an enduring fascination for military enthusiast and general reader alike." Minor edge wear. Dust jacket has some small areas of very light edge wrinkling.
