The tradition of werewolves goes back to the dawn of history and it is found in countries all over the world. There is even a scientific term for it - Lycanthropy - which denotes the magical transformation of man into beast or the belief that such changes take place. The vast conflict, which involved almost all the European powers and their empires, is the subject of (this book). (It) provides a highly readable narrative of a complex period that fundamentally shaped the European state system. 118 pp, 11 1/4" H. Profusely illustrated with colour photographs. "The 1960s was a decade of major transition for the National Hockey League. Bitter rivalries were the order of the day, especially between Canada's two teams, as the Leafs and the Canadiens accounted for nine of the decade's Stanley Cup winners. The league doubled in size as new teams in St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Oakland brought hockey to new fans throughout North America. Aging superstars like Maurice 'Rocket' Richard passed the torch to the next generation of stellar players such as Bobby Orr. Hall of Famers like Johnny Bower, Dave Keon, Bobby Hull, Gordie Howe, Jean Beliveau, Terry Sawchuk and Glenn Hall were at their peak. Through it all, innovative action photographer Harold Barkley was rinkside, recording for posterity the greatest moments of hockey in the sixties. To his stunning colour photographs, accomplished hockey writer Mike Leonetti adds intriguing, fact-filled captions and comments. (A) treasure trove for dedicated hockey fans as well as newcomers to the game." Previous owner's place, Christmas date and signature on free front endpaper. 6 Miquelon, Dale. DUGARD OF ROUEN: FRENCH TRADE TO CANADA AND THE WEST INDIES, 1729-1770.
Montreal McGill - Queen's University Press 1978 0773502998 / 9780773502994 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Very Good-
282 pp, 9 1/4" H. Tables, map. "From the letters and fragmentary accounts of Robert Dugard of Rouen, Professor Miquelon has brought to life the history of an eighteenth-century trading company. Robert Dugard and his associates were men who came of age at the right moment to capitalize on the political and financial stability of France during the thirty years after Utrecht, and on the widening opportunities of colonial trade. Their Societe du Canada was founded in 1729 to handle the Quebec trade, but soon they were also testing the sugar island trade. By 1742 their business with the West Indies was more profitable than their Canadian trade. But catastrophe trod upon the heels of success: between 1744 and 1748 most of their fleet was lost to shipwreck and war. Of the three remaining ships one was broken up, another relegated to the fishery, and the third given over to sugar hauling. At Quebec, Dugard's factors, Havy and Lefebvre, had remained and prospered in the fur trade, Labrador sealing, and the trade with France. Professor Miquelon describes their activities, which continued until their business was completely destroyed by the Conquest of Canada." Bump to top of spine, three corners have tiny or small bump. Dust jacket has light to moderate rubbing, light edge wear/wrinkling - mainly at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds.

Together they present a fascinating view of sea life. 215 pp, 9 1/4" H. "(A) rich and fascinating insight into Quebec's sense of its own identity. An exuberantly cheeky history lesson by Yvon Deschamps, the popular entertainer and monologuist; a reasoned and impassioned essay on the attitudes encountered by French Canadians outside Quebec from the pen of the late Andre Laurendeau, one of the province's finest journalists; or a 'memoire' of early childhood experiences expressed with a cool sense of outrage by Claire Martin - all of these are among the many fine pieces of writing presented (here). They explore the major themes of Quebec life and thought from the past and present, as well as views on the shape of the future. The list of authors is, in itself, a spectacular tribute to the vitality of the province's literary tradition. Poets, story tellers, historians, journalists, entertainers, playwrights, song writers - each has a special focus and casts a special light on Quebec's life and heritage." Minor wrinkling at bottom of spine, tiny pen mark on top of text block. Dust jacket has light edge wear wrinkling, two very small edge tears archivally taped, light rubbing/soiling.
