1 Mayne, William. THE BLEMYAH STORIES.
London Walker Books 1987 0744506077 / 9780744506075 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good- Very Good Juan Wijngaard.
72 pp, 10 3/4" H. Colour illustrations. "In words and pictures of rare imaginative power, this book tells the story of a very special year in the life of a medieval priory - the year when the mysterious Blemyahs (beings with their faces on their chests) came. Working by night, unseen by the Brothers, the Blemyahs carved the misericords under the seats in the Quire stalls - images of Adam and Eve, Noah, the Three Kings and many others, which came to life as they were carved. And all through the year there was trouble, caused by the youngest Blemyah's most knotty creation - the cheeky, ever-meddlesome imp, Ruffin - who was finally cured of his naughtiness by the touch of a new-born Baby's hand." Light to moderate edge wear - mainly on bottom edge of boards, small shallow bump to bottom edge of front board. Dust jacket has minor wrinkling at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, very light rubbing.
Price: 17.50 USD

A RAZOR FOR A GOAT: A DISCUSSION OF CERTAIN PROBLEMS IN THE HISTORY OF WITCHCRAFT AND DIABOLISM., Rose, Elliot.
2 Rose, Elliot. A RAZOR FOR A GOAT: A DISCUSSION OF CERTAIN PROBLEMS IN THE HISTORY OF WITCHCRAFT AND DIABOLISM.
University of Toronto Press, Toronto, 1989.
257 pp, 8vo (9" H), soft cover. ISBN 0802067689 "With an amazing knowledge of his subject (and also of related matters, e.g. mythology and Jungian psychology) the author here discusses witchcraft and diabolism in a way that arouses admiration for his exact and critical aptitude. The central theme is the historical origins (and, as a sidetrack, the psychological functions) of some forms of witchcraft. The question whether these should be regarded as survivals of the ancient pagan cults, or whether they should be supposed to be linked to Christedom as heresy, is given extensive treatment." International Review of Social History. Interior - clean and tight with no previous ownership marks. Exterior - very minor edge wear, two tiny co rner creases - one migrates into last few pages. Very Good+
