208 pp + (4) pp of publisher's advertising, 9" H. Deep red cloth with gilt lettering, yellow banding and floral decoration in red/green/yellow on spine and front board, top edge gilt. 61 colour plates (includ-ing frontispiece) with tissue-guards bearing captions (collated). A charming illustrated tour of London at the close of the Victorian era, before the age of the motor car. Previous owner's small name stamp at top of front pastedown, inside hinges have splits in the paper but are holding firmly, book is slightly cocked, light browning to fore-edge and bottom of text block, very light browning on free endpapers, light edge wear, three very small bumps to fore-edge of rear board, wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, color on spine and rear hinge area has dulled, minor soiling on bottom of text block, protected in a stiff mylar sleeve.

A collection of prose and poetry by Edmund Blunden, one of Engl and's WWI poets, here describing aspects of the English countryside and village life. Titles include: Expressions at the Market; The Fan Tod; The Hop Leaf, An Ancient Holiday (Cricket); The Winter Moth; Mists and Fogs; The Village Chimney s ; A n E x - F ootballer; A Country Prayer, etc. Small label from bookstore on front pastedown, previous owner's name/date on free front endpaper, six pages with small light stain in margin, book slightly cracked at pages 128/129, minor soiling to t o p of te xt bl oc k, minor wrinkling at top/bottom of spine.
