PETER PAN IN KENSINGTON GARDENS., Barrie, J.M.
2 Barrie, J.M. PETER PAN IN KENSINGTON GARDENS.
London Hodder and Stoughton Hard Cover Good Arthur Rackham.

No date, but Xmas inscription dated 1926 on half title page. 16 tipped in colour plates (including frontispiece) with captioned tissue guards. All the plates are in clean, bright condition - wonderful examples of Arthur Rackham's fantastically imaginative portrayals of fairies, children, birds, gnarly trees, etc. This version of the tale is quite different from the play and later Disney adaptations - no Tinkerbelle, Captain Hook or Wendy, it focuses on Peter Pan's life in London's famous Kensington Gardens and his interactions with the fairies and birds that live there. A slight separation between a few page gatherings but pages are holding firmly, faint toning to margins of pages and tissues, very slight crl to top corner of pages, a few scattered tiny faint foxing marks throughtout pages, very small tear with crease at top of page 17 - archivally taped, colored plate opposite page 32 has been re-tipped in at top edge and is slightly mis-aligned to page - was originally tipped in at edge nearest hinge leaving faint location mark, areas of very light browning on endpapers, slight fading to spine color - a little more at bottom 1/2" of spine, light wear/wrinkling at top bottom of spine with a few tiny tears, three very small light liquid marks on rear board, book is lightly cocked.

6 Jencks, Charles, essays by. (Robert Stern.) ROBERT AM STERN: SELECTED WORKS. ARCHITECTURAL MONOGRAPHS NO 17.
Academy Editions, (London, 1991).
144 pp, 4to (12" H), soft cover with self-flaps. Profusely illustrated in color and b&w with photos, drawings, plans, elevations. "Robert Stern's work as an architect is indivisible from his abiding concern with history and historical style. He regards Post-Modernism not as a random recycling of past styles, but as a necessary liberation from what he calls the 'perennial present' of the Modern Movement. In the four essays reproduced in this Monograph he urges contemporary architects to widen their vocabulary, to learn from the past in order to 'reunite current production with the traditions that a previous generation tried so hard to subvert'. The 33 projects featured here reveal the range of influences which have in formed Robert Stern's projects and buildings: from the Lutyens and Kahn inspired Lang and Westchester houses of the early 70s to later 'Shingle Style' solution such as the Lawson and Marblehead residences. Also featured are a number of larger scale buildings such as the Mexx International Headquarters in the Netherlands and the Disney Casting Center in Florida which have consolidated Stern's reputation over the last five years." Interior - small area of light soiling on half- title page, bottom of inside front hinge cracked. Exterior - light edge wear, rubbing to glossy covers - no color loss, spine flat and uncreased. VG-

AFRICA'S CHILDREN: A HISTORY OF BLACKS IN YARMOUTH, NOVA SCOTIA., Robart-Johnson, Sharon.
7 Robart-Johnson, Sharon. AFRICA'S CHILDREN: A HISTORY OF BLACKS IN YARMOUTH, NOVA SCOTIA.
Toronto Natural Heritage 2009 1550028626 / 9781550028621 First Edition Soft Cover Fine
236 pp, 9" H. B&w photographs, reproductions. "Chronicling the history of Black families of the Yarmouth area of Nova Scotia, (this book) is a mirror image of the hopes and despairs and the achievements and injustices that mark the early stories of many African-Canadians. This extensively researched history traces the lives of those people, still enslaved at the time, who arrived with the influx of Black Loyalists and landed in Shelburne in 1783, as well as those who had come with their masters as early as 1767. Their migration to a new home did little to improve their overall living conditions, a situation that would persist for many years throughout Yarmouth County. By drawing on a comprehen-sive range of sources that include census and cemetery records, church and school histories, libraries, museums, oral histories, newspapers, wills, 'The Black Loyalist Directory', and many others, this is a history that has been overlooked for far too long. " Inside - clean and tight with no previous ownership marks. Exterior - clean and bright.
