They joined a multi-national expeditionary force that quickly found itself embroiled in a full-scale war. Members of the Canadian navy, airforce and infantry fought with distinction and endured months of bloody stalemate that ultimately stopped the Communists but failed to reunite the people of the Korean peninsula - with consequences that continue to haunt the world today. 3 Beaty, David. STRANGE ENCOUNTERS: MYSTERIES OF THE AIR.
London Methuen 1982 0413397602 / 9780413397607 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good+ Very Good+
160 pp, 9 1/2" H. B&w photographs. "Why did the airship R101 crash on her voyage to India? How did the great Australian pioneer aviatior, Charles Kingsford-Smith, leave such a trail of death behind him when he disappared in 'Lady Southern Cross' in 1935? How did the pilots of the Fairey Postal Mono-plane in 1929 know that they were going to die? Why did so many of the first women who tried to emulate Lindbergh's solo flight across the Atlantic disappear in mysterious circumstances? What was the jinx that befell Stratocruiser propellers in the 1950s, and was it a coincidence that two Stratocruiser captains met in mid-Atlantic on Christmas Day 1957? What was the strange link between the Comet take-off accidents and the Comets that exploded in mid-air? Many flying mysteries of the past have since been explained by the advance of technology, but many remain, particularly those connected to time, coincidence and precognition of events. None of the aircraft disasters described in this book, which have taken place this century in uncertain and even mysterious circumstances, have ever been fully eplained." Very light browning to pages and edges of text block. Dust jacket is price-clipped, has very minor rubbing, very minor edge wrinkling, tiny scuff on rear flap-fold.

4 Brumfield, Kirby. THE WHEAT ALBUM: A PICTURE AND STORY SCRAPBOOK OF WHEAT HARVESTS IN YEARS GONE BY.
Seattle, Washington Superior Publishing 1974 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Good
192 pp, 10 3/4" H. Profusely illustrated with b&w photographs, advertisements, articles, reproductions. "This 'scrapbook' is as absorbing as an old family album that carries one back through the decades. Pictures and yarns of the early 1800s wheat-farming era, when harvesting was a matter of hand labor - cutting with scythes - bundling into sheaves - and the women following the crews to cook up husky meals for hungry men. Then came Cyrus McCormick's mechanical reaper. Although many were dubious about the machine, it proved itself highly competent, and the whole picture changed. Harvest-ing would never be the same again. Following the success of the reaper came many other inventions that revolutionized wheat farming and all of agriculture. But wheat farming still required plenty of people-power." Contents: Introduction; Heroic Homesteaders; Prairie Life; Getting the Crop In; Heading and Binding (Heading / Binding / Stacking); Threshing (Sweep Power / Woimen Worked Too); Combined-Harvester. Small bump at top of spine, light wrinkling at bottom of spine, very light wear at corners and at top/bottom of spine. Dust jacket has light wrinkling at top of spine and flap-folds, light rubbing with some color loss on spine.

6 Delve, Ken. D-DAY: THE AIR BATTLE.
Ramsbury Crowood Press 2004 1861267045 / 9781861267047 Revised and Enlarged Edition. Hard Cover Very Good Very Good
192 pp, 10" H. Profusely illustrated with b&w photographs, reproductions, maps/plans. "6 June 1944 saw the Allied invasion of occupied Europe - one of the riskiest military operations of World War Two. The part played by air power in the success of the operation was crucial. This was the greatest concentration of striking power ever seen: 12,000 combat aircraft. Fighter-bombers such as the P-47 Thunderbolt and Hawker Typhoon bombed, strafed and rocketed tactical targets with great accuracy, while strategic bombers, escorted by hundreds of fighters, targeted bridges, marshalling yards, coastal guns and military stores. Other aircraft flew sophisticated decoy operations and hundreds of transports dropped paratroops or released gliders. In this, the only full-length book on the subject, Ken Delve examines the air campaign from the pre-invasion bombing strategy that prepared the battlefield to the massive air effort that accompanied the actual assault and the air umbrella during the vital weeks following the landings. Originally published in 1994, (it) has been substantially enlarged, re-illustrated and completely reset (providing) comprehensive coverage of this vital air campaign." Small bump at top of front hinge. Dust jacket has light wrinkling at top of front hinge.
