A CANADIAN INDIAN BIBLIOGRAPHY 1960-1970., Abler, Thomas S., Weaver, Sally M. With Claire C. Veillette and Iris V. Yuzdepski. Case Law Digest prepared by Douglas E. Sanders with Paul C. Taylor.
1 Abler, Thomas S., Weaver, Sally M. With Claire C. Veillette and Iris V. Yuzdepski. Case Law Digest prepared by Douglas E. Sanders with Paul C. Taylor. A CANADIAN INDIAN BIBLIOGRAPHY 1960-1970.
Toronto University of Toronto Press 1974 0802020925 / 9780802020925 First Edition Hard Cover Near Fine Very Good
732 pp, 9 1/4" H. "This bibliography lists and annotates material published between 1960 and 1970 of interest to the serious student of the Indians and Metis in Canada. A team of researchers worked through books, monographs, journals, theses, unpublished papers and reports, publications by Indians, and federal and provincial government documents to generate over three throusand entries covering a multi-disciplinary range of aspects of current society and culture. Some aspects such as physical anthropology, biomedicine, archaeology, and linguistics had to be excluded, however. Both English- and French-language sources were covered. The entries are arranged by topic or tribe, and there is an index to assist in cross-reference or finer selection. Of special note is the Case Law Digest, which describes briefly the facts and decisions of all significant legal cases involving Indians since 1867. The systematic exposition of these decisions should help increase understanding of the legal situation in which Indians now live." Dust jacket is price-clipped, has light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, light soiling at top of spine, minor rubbing.

LOUIS WAIN'S CATS., Beetles, Chris. With contributions from Rodney Dale and David Wootton.
2 Beetles, Chris. With contributions from Rodney Dale and David Wootton. LOUIS WAIN'S CATS.
Cambridge Worth Press 2011 1849310262 / 9781849310260 First Edition Hard Cover Fine Very Good+ Louis Wain.
256 pp, square small 10to (10 1/4" H x 10 1/4" D). Profusely illustrated with colour and b&w reproductions of Wain's art. "During their heyday, in the time before the First World War, Louis Wain's cats, dressed as humans, portrayed (the) stylish Edwardian world having fun; at restaurants and tea parties, going to the Races and the Seaside, celebrating Christmas and Birthdays, and disporting themselves with exuberant games of tennis, bowls, cricket and football. This is a titillating world of cats at play, uninhibited and slightly dangerous, with most group activities likely to turn into mishap, mayhem and catastrophe. This is Wain's world, funny, edgy and animated; a whole cat world. The first comprehensive exhibition of Wain's work was held at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London in 1972 and, since then, Louis Wain has steadily become more fashionable and collected worldwide. This new biography will show many images for the first time ever, amongst 300 plates of richness and variety, all of which are reproduced faithfully from the original artwork." Dust jacket has tiny wrinkles at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, a few slight wrinkles on front flap

Black, white & cream illustrations (several fold-out) plus colour fold-out map (collated). Title continues: "To which is sub-joined a comparative view of the manners and customs of several of the Indian nations of North and South America." "Heriot went to Quebec in 1792 as a civil servant and became deputy postmaster general of Canada in 1799. Until 1816 he remained in Canada, travelling at least as far west as Niagara Falls, perhaps Detroit, and to some extent in the United States, sketching along the way. His legacy - his water-colors and this book, an unsurpassed intimate history of 'the lakes, the rivers, and cataracts, the villages, farm-houses, and townships of Canada'. Although British reviewers of the day were unimpressed by richly detailed descriptions of a mere colony, the extent and precision of Heriot's account is a virtue one hundred and sixty years later. He wrote at length of each of the major waterways in Upper and Lower Canada which were, as James Talman points out in his introduction, 'of first importance in the life of the people as a means of travel and a source of water power'. And his sketches of buildings, particularly in Quebec, are invaluable since many of those buildings were already falling into ruin when Heriot saw them." Very minor wrinkling at top og spine. Toronto Van Nostrand Reinhold 1977 0442298730 / 9780442298739 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Good+
215 pp, 9 1/4" H. "(A) rich and fascinating insight into Quebec's sense of its own identity. An exuberantly cheeky history lesson by Yvon Deschamps, the popular entertainer and monologuist; a reasoned and impassioned essay on the attitudes encountered by French Canadians outside Quebec from the pen of the late Andre Laurendeau, one of the province's finest journalists; or a 'memoire' of early childhood experiences expressed with a cool sense of outrage by Claire Martin - all of these are among the many fine pieces of writing presented (here). They explore the major themes of Quebec life and thought from the past and present, as well as views on the shape of the future. The list of authors is, in itself, a spectacular tribute to the vitality of the province's literary tradition. Poets, story tellers, historians, journalists, entertainers, playwrights, song writers - each has a special focus and casts a special light on Quebec's life and heritage." Gallery, New York, 1990.
80 pp, 12 1/8" H, hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 0831726725 Profusely illustrated with b&w and colour photographs. "In August 1941 a handful of young Americans disembarked at Rangoon, Burma, the first contingent of fighter pilots of Claire Lee C hennault's American Volunteer Group. Enlisted from the US Army, Navy and Marine Corps to aid the Chinese Nationalist forces of Chiang Kai-shek in their bitter war against the Japanese, Chennault's aviators were destined to gain worldwide ren o w n a s the Flying Tigers. Within the year the Flying Tigers' distinctive shark-toothed P-40 fighters would be credited with destroying nearly 300 enemy aircraft. Chennault was an innovative aerial tactician and, recognizing his unit's acute s ho rt ag e s of pilots and aircraft, decreed that his three squadrons - the Adam and Eves, Hell's Angels, and Panda Bears - were only to engage the enemy on the most favorable terms. His strict code of war paid dividends during the hard-fought air co mba ts ov er Ra n goon in which the Flying Tigers consistently outfought a numerically superior enemy, thereby preventing the Japanese from gaining air superiority over the Burmese capital and allowing the British and Imperial ground troops to make the ir esc ape to th e Indian border. 'Flying Tigers' retells the full story behind one of World War II's most colorful fighting elite forces, from the recruitment of the first pilots, through their intial training in Burma and the savage do gfigh ts ov er Rang oon, to the ir missions defending the retreating Allied forces. A final chapter looks at the demise of the unit and makes a critical assessment of its contribution to the Allied war effort." Minor corner wear.
