412 pp, 8 3/4" H. Brown cloth with gilt lettering on spine, gilt lettering/decoration on front board, top edge gilt. 113 b&w illustrations, including tissue-covered frontispiece. Contents: The Stone Age, its Duration, and its Place in Time; Food, Cannibalism, Mammals, Fish, Hunting and Fishing, Navigation; Weapons, Tools, Pottery - Origin of the Use of Fire, Clothing, Ornaments - Early Artistic Efforts; Caves, Kitchen-Middings, Lake Stations, "Terremares", Crannoges, Burghs, "Nurhags", "Talayoti", and "Truddhi"; Megalithic Monuments; Industry, Commerce, Social Organization - Fights, Wounds and Trepanation; Camps, Fortifications, Vitrified Forts - Santorin - The Towns upon the Hill of Hissarlik; Tombs; Index. Inside rear hinge has splitting to paper but is holding firmly, two edge tears on page leaf 403/404 - archivally taped, small 'v' tear on page leaf 407/408 - archivally taped, small area of browning at bottom of inside front hinge, browning to fore-edge and bottom of text block, light edge wear - more at corners and at top/bottom of spine, wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, light waviness on spine, faint staining on half of rear board.
