245 pp, 5 7/8" H. Cloth spine, paper-covered boards with text on rear board, lettering, illustration and decorative border on front board. Appears to be an American publication reprinted by the Montreal News for use in Canada. No date, but examples of business forms are dated 1890 & 1891. Title page continues: "from a quarter of a cent to ten dollars, Containing also comprehensive and accurate tables for board, scantling and plank measurement, timber and log measure, wages and board, interest, grain and building tables, business forms, business law, and much other information for every-day use." From the Preface: "(S)hows at one glance the value of any number of pounds, gallons, yards, feet, &c., of any article from one ot a thousand, at one-quarter of a cent up to ten dollars, in so easy and expeditious a manner, that a person unacquainted with arithmetic may, by looking at the head of the page to find the given price, and at the column on the side for the number wanted, tell with the utmost accuracy the amount of value required." xv, 341, 118 pp, 7 1/8" H. Brown leather spine and corners, marbled paper-covered boards, black leather title label on spine with gilt lettering, additional gilt date and decoration, blindstamped design. Small label at top of front pastedown: "J. Carss & Co., Bookbinders, 31, Argyle Street, Glasgow." Title page continues: "Classed and Arranged Under Each Distinct Head of Trade or Profession: With a Street Directory: and An Appendix Containing many Useful Lists. Ninth Publication." The first section (xv pp) consists of a Calendar (July, 1836 to December, 1837); Stamp Duties; Index. The second section (341 pp) contains Alphabetical List of Streets, Squares, Places &c. With a Reference to their Situation; Letter Carriers; Glasgow Post-Office Directory (arranged by name); Glasgow Post-Office Directory, Arranged by Profession. Book is protected in a stiff mylar sleeve.
