Unpaginated,10 1/4" H. B&w illustrations. "The Indians told stories to explain how their world was made; they told stories to preserve their history for themselves and their children; they told stories because there were always those who wanted to listen. Their stories were handed down from generation to generation and in recent times have been collected by anthropologists working among the surviving tribes. The eleven stories retold in this book by Isabel Barclay are all about birds and animals. One or two come from the Prairies and the Pacific Northwest; the rest belong to the people of the eastern woodlands. The illustrations have been taken from a seventeenth-century manuscript in the Public Archives of Canada know as 'Les raretes des Indes'. It is believed to be the work of a young Jesuit, Louis Nicolas, who recorded in these extraordinary and beautiful drawings his impressions of the strange animals who lived in the wilderness to which he had come." EVERYONE IN THE BIBLE., Barker, William P.
6 Barker, William P. EVERYONE IN THE BIBLE.
Old Tappan, New Jersey Fleming H. Revell 1966 Book Club Hard Cover Very Good - Good+
370 pp, large 8vo (9 1/4" H). "Who was Izri, Rinnah, Heli? Are Mica, Micah, Micaiah, and Michaiah the same person or four different people? Where is the story of the scheming villain Haman found? What is meant by 'she's a real Jezebel' or 'he's a doubting Thomas'? Clearly identified in these pages are nearly 3,000 individuals - absolutely every man, woman, and child, important or obscure - named in the Bible. In cases of multiple spelling, the names are carefully cross-referenced. When more than one person bears a particular name - there are twenty-five Azariahs, for example, and thirty Zechariahs - each is clearly identified and distinguished from the others. Scripture references are given for each name, along with a brief resume of all that is known concerning the person - genealogy, significant accomplishments, or historical facts. The information is accurate; the descriptions concise; and the style readable and fascinating. An ideal book for Bible teachers and scholars, for the lay person who is often confronted with literary references to Biblical personalities, for writers and speakers to whom accuracy is paramount - a dependable, complete who's who in the Bible." Dust jacket has light fading to color on spine and front hinge area, some light browning on inside and top edge of flaps, light wrinkling at bottom of flap folds, minor edge wear.

231 pp, 7 7/8" H. Dust jacket design by William Stobbs. B&w drawings. "Bari, a half-breed boy of the North American Indian country, has two driving passions: his love of the wild animals of his home in Northern Ontario, and his great urge to draw them. In these he is encouraged by Paddy, the friendly trapper who brings him up from the age of nine. But it is only after going unwillingly to school and then learning that success does not come without work and hardship that Bari eventually begins to see ahead of him the life on an artist which he had dreamed about for so long. Miss Carruthers taught for many years in a school for Indians in the Canadian bushland. She is a natural storyteller, and (this book) reflects vividly her profound knowledge and affection for the Indians and the wild life of the country."
