WEAPONS FREE. THE STORY OF A GULF WAR HELICOPTER PILOT., Boswell, Richard. Foreword by General Sir Peter de la Billiere.
7 Boswell, Richard. Foreword by General Sir Peter de la Billiere. WEAPONS FREE. THE STORY OF A GULF WAR HELICOPTER PILOT.
Crecy, (Manchester, 1998).
216 pp, large 8vo (9 7/8" H), hard cover in dust jacket. B&w and color photographs. "In September 1990 Richard Boswell was a newly qualified helicopter pilot in the Royal Navy, fresh out of flight school and flying one of the most potent fighting helicopters in the world - the Westland Lynx. The world was at his feet in every sense. Then, on the day he and his girlfriend decided to buy a house together, Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. With less than 24 hours notice, Richard Boswell was onboard HMS Manchester and en-route to the Gulf and impending war. Once in the Gulf, HMS Manchester prepared for the seaborne invasion that most thought was inevitalbe. Boswell saw action against Iraqi forces, protecting Allied ships and sinking a number of Iraqi gunboats. After the liberation of Kuwait, he flew extensively around the devastated country, when his duties included a spell as pilot for Sir Peter de la Billiere. But his story does not end there. After returning to the UK , Boswell became an instructor and also indulged his passion for flying home-built aircraft, a passion that led to the accident that nearly killed him and ended his days as a Navy pilot. The portrayal of the battle to rebuilt his shattered life is every bit as graphic as his wartime experiences in the Gulf." Minor wrinkling at top of spine - very light at bottom. Dust jacket has light wrinkling at bottom of spine. VG+/VG+

14 Delve, Ken. D-DAY: THE AIR BATTLE.
Ramsbury Crowood Press 2004 1861267045 / 9781861267047 Revised and Enlarged Edition. Hard Cover Very Good Very Good
192 pp, 10" H. Profusely illustrated with b&w photographs, reproductions, maps/plans. "6 June 1944 saw the Allied invasion of occupied Europe - one of the riskiest military operations of World War Two. The part played by air power in the success of the operation was crucial. This was the greatest concentration of striking power ever seen: 12,000 combat aircraft. Fighter-bombers such as the P-47 Thunderbolt and Hawker Typhoon bombed, strafed and rocketed tactical targets with great accuracy, while strategic bombers, escorted by hundreds of fighters, targeted bridges, marshalling yards, coastal guns and military stores. Other aircraft flew sophisticated decoy operations and hundreds of transports dropped paratroops or released gliders. In this, the only full-length book on the subject, Ken Delve examines the air campaign from the pre-invasion bombing strategy that prepared the battlefield to the massive air effort that accompanied the actual assault and the air umbrella during the vital weeks following the landings. Originally published in 1994, (it) has been substantially enlarged, re-illustrated and completely reset (providing) comprehensive coverage of this vital air campaign." Small bump at top of front hinge. Dust jacket has light wrinkling at top of front hinge.

B-24 LIBERATOR UNITS OF THE EIGHTH AIR FORCE. OSPREY COMBAT AIRCRAFT SERIES 15., Dorr Robert F. Series editor: Tony Holmes.
15 Dorr Robert F. Series editor: Tony Holmes. B-24 LIBERATOR UNITS OF THE EIGHTH AIR FORCE. OSPREY COMBAT AIRCRAFT SERIES 15.
Osprey, Oxford, 1999.
96 pp, 9 3/4" H, soft cover. ISBN 1855329018 Profusely illustrated with b&w photographs and scale drawings, colour profiles. "The B-24 Liberator was built in greater numbers than any other US warplane, yet its combat crews live, even today, in th e shadow of the less plentiful, but better-known, B-17. Accounts of the 'Mighty Eighth' in Europe, and indeed many of the books and films that emerged from the greatest air campaign in history, often overlook the B-24, even though it was in a c t i o n for as long as the Flying Fortress, and participated in just as many perilous daylight bombing missions. Twenty-one bomb groups saw action with the Eighth from 9 October 1942 through to VE-Day, operating both from airfields in the 'bombe r tr ia ng le ' in East Anglia, and North Africa. Providing an overview of Eighth AF B-24 operations, this volume is the second of four within this series chronicling the role of the Liberator in World War 2." Interior - clean and tight with no p re vio us own ers hi p marks. Exterior - A few faint line indentation as a two faint rub marks on front cover. Very Good+

18 Ethell, Jeffrey L. BOMBER COMMAND.
Motorbooks, Osceola, WI, 1994, first edition.
180 pp, square small 4to (10 1/4" H x 10 1/4" D), hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 0879389206 Profusely illustrated with color photographs. "The Bomber Command was the heart of the US Army Air Force's operations against Nazi Germany in World War I I. At its peak, the USAAF boasted 2,411,294 men and women in uniform with 230,000 aircraft flown by 193,440 pilots. And statistically, there was no more dangerous place to be in World War II than in a bomber over Germany. (This book) tells th e s t ory of the USAAF in the European and Mediterranean Theaters during World War II. But instead of another gray history of armies and campaigns, (it) relives the color of the operations both in terms of first-person accounts and anecdotes as we ll as w ith original World War II color photography of the events." Foster takes you to the beginning in 1909, just six years after the success at Kitty Hawk, when the first manned flying machine to operate successfully within the British Empire flew at Baddeck, Nova Scotia. He docu-ments the period between the wars when the Royal Canadian Air Force was officially founded, through to the massive Canadian support in World War II, the Cold War and to the present, when detente means - perhaps unwisely - a reduction in air force personnel and units."
