SPLENDID HERITAGE: HISTORICAL BUILDINGS OF ONTARIO., Mika, Nick and Mika, Helma. Introduction by Beth Hanna. Foreword By W. John McIntyre.
1 Mika, Nick and Mika, Helma. Introduction by Beth Hanna. Foreword By W. John McIntyre. SPLENDID HERITAGE: HISTORICAL BUILDINGS OF ONTARIO.
Belleville, Ontario Mika 1992 0921341504 / 9780921341505 First Edition Hard Cover Fine Very Good+
144 pp, square (10 3/8" x 10 3/8"). Colour photographs. "(A) celebration of Ontario's heritage. Its many pictures provide a panoramic view of the province's architecture from the late 18th century to the Victorian era. Its text combines architectural description with the story of some of the people who built and used these buildings, including (no doubt) some local folkore along the way. In other words, it is not a book for scholars; but rather, a book intended for all people who love old buildings and a book which may help to inspire interest among those who may never have stopped to look at an old building before." Book is Fine. Dust jacket has very minor edge wrinkling.

ATLANTIC MERCHANT-APOTHECARY: LETTERS OF JOSEPH CRUTTENDEN 1710-1717., Steele, I.K., editor. (Joseph Cruttenden.)
5 Steele, I.K., editor. (Joseph Cruttenden.) ATLANTIC MERCHANT-APOTHECARY: LETTERS OF JOSEPH CRUTTENDEN 1710-1717.
Toronto University of Toronto Press 1977 0802053645 / 9780802053640 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good+
135 pp, 9 1/4" H. Brown cloth with black title blocks and decorations on spine and front board - gilt lettering. "The letters of Joseph Cruttenden, London merchant-apothecary, form a unique document in early modern economic, medical, and social history. Cruttenden, who carried on trade in colonial America and the British West Indies, did not represent the powerful merchant houses that handled much of the colonial trade as commission agents and staple traders. He was one of the thousands of small traders whose names survive, like rows of miniature tombstones, only in the English portbooks. The remedies his colonial customers ordered suggest that these physicians, clerics, and merchant apothecaries were better informed about new drugs and practices than has been assumed. Cruttenden's letters provide a rare opportunity to evaluate the pharmacy of his time, in terms not of huge pharmacopoeias but of the ingredients and remedies actually sought by practitioners. In frank and engaging style, Cruttenden reveals a little about himself, a great deal about the drug and medicine trade, and even more about the business practices of a small trader in England's Atlantic empire." Minor edge wear, minor wrinkling at bottom of spine.
