Chicago Quadrangle Books 1968 Hard Cover Very Good Very Good-
184 pp, 8 1/2" H. "Mr. Bull, editor of the 'Central African Examiner' (one of Salisbury's leading magazines before it ceased publication late in 1965 as a result of rigid censorship by the Rhodesian government), presents the first authoritative explanation of the Rhodesian situation. Most of his book is a factual account of the important political, social, and economic changes in Britain's colony from the first European settlement to the present day (1967), with particular attention to the separate develop-ment of the racial communities. The second part of the book is an assessment of British policy before and after Rhodesia's Universal Declaration, and the likely outcome of the present deadlock." Light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, tiny faint water mark on top of text block; previous owner's signature, name and date on free front endpaper. Dust jacket has been price-clipped, has light to moderate wear/wrinkling at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, light fading/browning on spine, very small tear at top of front panel - archivally taped, some light rubbing with color loss on rear panel.

4 Paton, Alan. TOO LATE THE PHALAROPE.
Toronto / London Clarke, Irwin / Jonathan Cape 1953 First Canadian Edition. Hard Cover Very Good Very Good- Val Biro, dust jacket art.
253 pp, small 8vo (7 5/8" H). The first Canadian edition, consisting of a first edition Jonathan Cape book with a Clarke, Irwin dust jacket, priced at $2.10. "Alan Paton's second novel is as powerful as his first. Indeed it surpasses 'Cry, the Beloved Country' in both the effectiveness of its technique and the emotional intensity of its theme. The setting is again South Africa, but the tragedy this time is of a white man who for complicated reasons, some of them not unconnected with his childhood and training, succumbs to the very temptations he might have been thought strong enough to resist. His downfall is recorded by his father's sister who watched the train of events, half foreseeing the disaster yet unable to prevent it, and now in anguish blames herself. Though the story could have had no other setting than South Africa, its application is universal, and certainly its poignancy does not depend on its geographical situation." Minor edge wear, minor wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, minor soiling on top of text block. Dust jacket has light edge wear/wrinkling, a few very small edge tears, light edge browning, very light soiling/rubbing on rear panel.
