THE MONGOLS: A HISTORY., Curtin, Jeremiah. Foreword by Theodore Roosevelt.
1 Curtin, Jeremiah. Foreword by Theodore Roosevelt. THE MONGOLS: A HISTORY.
Combined Books, (Conshohocken, PA, 1996), reprint.
426 pp, 8vo (8 1/4" h), soft cover. Originally published in 1908. "Curtin's narrative provides exhaustive detail on the clans, feuds, battles, and conquests of the Mongol era. Every aspect of Mongol intrigue, logistics, planning and tactics is covered, along with many incidents illustrating their cunning, cruelty and ingenuity. Full coverage is given of the Mogols in China, India and the Middle East. Of particular interest is the detailed account of the Mongols' relationship wit h the Crusaders, and how their appearance upset the balance of power between Christendom and Islam. Perhaps the most dramatic aspect of the Mongols' career in the Middle East was their lengthy rivalry with the Assassins' cult. A detailed and colorful account of the Assassins' evolution and doctrine is given, and the description of a long and murderous conflict that has a curiosly modern ring to it. A comprehensive and highly descriptive index serves as a valuable guide to the numerous individuals, places and events discussed." Interior - clean and tight with no previous ownership marks. Exterior - corner crease on rear cover - migrates into last few pages. VG

TRENTON: 50 YEARS OF AIR FORCE., Johnson, E.A. "Rick", Major, editor. Foreword by Colonel R.D. Russell.
2 Johnson, E.A. "Rick", Major, editor. Foreword by Colonel R.D. Russell. TRENTON: 50 YEARS OF AIR FORCE.
CFB Trenton 50th Anniversary Committee, Trenton, Ontario, 1981.
160 pp, oblong 8vo (8 5/8" H x 10 1/2" D), hard cover in dust jacket. Profusely illustrated with b&w and colour photographs. "Ever since it was officially opened in 1931 the base of Trenton, Ontario has been the most important military airfield in Canada. It began as a flying training base and in the early war years was responsible for training flight instructors who in turn helped to train the thousands of pilots in the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. After the war the base remained the home of Central Flying School and pilot training continued to be the primary activity. Post war expansion of commercial air traffic to and from Toronto gradually began to interfere with the freedom of movement of the trainers and in 1961CFS was moved to the open skies of the prairies and Trenton became the home of Air Transport Command. Throughout its 50 year history many thousands of airmen and airwomen have lived and worked here. Countless thousands more have passed through, either on course or as air transport passengers. It is hoped that this book will be of interest to everyone who has been here, by providing information about what happened here before or since their particular time at Trenton and by offering a nostalgic look at some of the people, planes and places of their era." Minor edge wear, one tiny edge dint. Dust jacket has one 1" closed tear archivally taped, a knife cut across rear panel, light browning, small dint on rear flap -fold, a few tiny closed tears, minor edge wrinkling. Very Good+/Good+

5 Taylor, A.J.P. Edited with an introduction by Chris Wrigley. FROM NAPOLEON TO THE SECOND INTERNATIONAL: ESSAYS ON NINETEENTH-CENTURY EUROPE.
Hamish Hamilton, London, 1993, first edition.
426 pp, large 8vo (9 1/2" H), hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 0241134447 "A.J.P. Taylor (1906-90) was one of Britain's most popular and authoritative historians. He wrote definitive works of British and diplomatic history which also became bestse llers, and was much admired for the many television lectures he gave - which he delivered without notes or visual aids and which ended precisely on time. His essays have always been recognized as amongst his best work and therefore some of t h e f i n e st historical writing of the last forty years. They provide short and incisive assessments of major historical figures and issues. Combining essays from earlier collections with pieces previously unpublished in volume form, this book br in g s to ge th er the best of Taylor's essays on nineteenth-century British and continental European history, including pieces on Napoleon, Metternich, 1848, Bismarck, Disraeli, Parnell and the Second International."
