1 Ansell, Mike, Colonel Sir. Foreword By H.R.H. The Prince Philip. SOLDIER ON: AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY.
London Peter Davies 1973 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good - Good+ Inscribed By Author
180 pp, large 8vo (9 1/2" H). **Inscribed on half title page: "G_____ A_____ Best wishes Mike Ansell Oct. 14th 1973". B&w plates. "In June, 1940, when Colonel Mike had just been awarded the D.S.O. and was the youngest Commanding Officer in the Army, disaster struck: he was blinded in a hail of bullets at St Valery. The way he has overcome this handicap, and other more heartbreaking losses, is the inspiring theme of this book. For Colonel Mike has never failed to 'soldier on' in the face of adversities that would have broken lesser men. Whether catching salmon on the Torridge in Devon, creating the beautiful garden at his home near Bideford, planning a new show-jumping course with his specially designed magnetic board, attending St Dunstan's reunions or sitting in his study typing this book, to everything he does Colonel Mike bring his own unique brand of enthusiasm and professionalism - just as he did before the war, when, for example, he organised the famous Trick Ride for his regiment, the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, and show-jumped for England. Chairman of the British Show-Jumping Association and of the British Horse Society for some twenty-five years and now President of the British Equestrian Federation, he has done more than any other single man to make Britain one of the leading equestrian nations in the world, and to stimulate the ever-growing interest in riding as a competitive and leisure sport." Publishers' promotional material laid-in. Scattered tiny foxing marks on top third of both boards and on edges of text bkock, light wear at corners. Dust jacket has bee price-clipped, heavy creases at top corner of rear flap-fold, tiny foxing marks on top inside edge, some light edge wear/wrinkling, small closed tear on front hinge, small repair at top edge - archivally taped.

MARCH TO ARMISTICE, 1918., Haworth, Christopher.
9 Haworth, Christopher. MARCH TO ARMISTICE, 1918.
William Kimber, London, 1968, first edition.
172 pp, large 8vo (9 1/2" H), hard cover in dust jacket. B&w photogarphs, maps. "Christopher Haworth went to the front near Ypres in 1918: an apprentice law writer of just nineteen, full of idealism and perhaps a little priggish. He became a good soldier, though not in the way of the Regular Army; he missed the slogging disillusion of First and Second Ypres, the Battles of the Aisne and Somme. He was typical of the new, amateur army which was needed to replace the flower of the R e g u l a r A r m y who had held the initial German advances in 1914-15. This is a personal, highly individual account of those last epic months of the Great War and from it emerges some idea of that unwarlike, unexpected quality which thwarted th e pl an s of L u de nd or ff and brought us final victory on the Western Front...." Two creases down free front endpaper, wrinkling at bottom of spine - minor wrinkling at toptiny faint stain on top of textblock. Dust jacket has light edge wear/w ri nkl ing , one or t wo tin y s cuffs, several small closed tears - one with crease, light soiling, light edge browning, ghost sticker mark with tiny pull on front panel, very light water stains on inside of spine. REMEMBER WITH ADVANTAGES: A HISTORY OF THE TENTH, ELEVENTH AND ROYAL HUSSARS, 1945-1992., Keown-Boyd, Henry.
15 Keown-Boyd, Henry. REMEMBER WITH ADVANTAGES: A HISTORY OF THE TENTH, ELEVENTH AND ROYAL HUSSARS, 1945-1992.
Leo Cooper, London, (1994), first edition.
296 pp, large 8vo (9 1/2" H), hard cover in dust jacket. B&w photos, maps, color plates. "The 10th Royal Hussars (PWO) and the 11th Hussars (PAO) were both raised in 1715 as regiments of Light Dragoons to deal with troubles north of the Scottish border. Both went on to win huge acclaim until, and indeed after, their amalgamation in 1969 as The Royal Hussars (PWO). Now they have had to face up to yet another amalgamation to form with the 14th/20th Hussars, The King's Royal Hussars. This book, written by a former officer of the 11th Hussars (PAO), traces the history of the two regiments from 1945 until the first amalgamation and then details the sadly short-lived history of The Royal Hussars (PWO) up to the time of the second amalgamation in 1992. Depressing as all that may sound, Henry Keown-Boyd shows that, in spite of all, the regimental spirit, the traditional loyalties, the time-honoured customs and the determination to succeed, survive and flourish. Both regiments have had numerous periods of active service since the Second World War and in this book descriptions of duties in Malaya, Arabia and Northern Ireland, among others, are much enhanced by recollections of those who took part . All of the four original regiments now brought together have their roots deeply planted in the history of the British Army and none are likely to dispute the fact that the new King's Royal Hussars will add further laurels to the wreath. Certainly, this is a most worthy tribute to one half of the newly formed regiment." Very faint cigarette odor, bump to top of rear hinge/spine. Dust jacket has light rubbing, creasing at top of spine. VG/VG

Ward Lock, London, 1973.
518 pp, large 8vo (9 15/16" H), hard cover in dust jacket. ISBN 706310012 B&w photographs, reproductions, maps, colour plates. "....the story of two Cavalry regiments, the 14th and 20th Light Dragoons, which were eventually amalgamated after the First World War to form the 14th/20th King's Hussars. Colonel Oatts has written a fascinating and often amusing story of the two Regiments in peace and war, deftly intertwined, and presented against a background of the history of Europe and the dev elopment of the British Empire. He takes us from the Jacobite Rebellions through the long struggle with Napoleon, the Indian Wars, with both Regiments fighting the Boers in South Africa at the turn of the nineteenth century. The horrors a n d d i s c o m forts of the Great War in France and Mesopotamia are fully described. With the rise of Hitler's Germany the horse gave way to the tank and the amalgamated Regiment went through its frustrating period of the Second World War and t he p os t -w ar p er io d as part of the Royal Armoured Corps. The Author takes us up to 1970, with the first visit to the Regiment of the newly appointed Colonel-in-Chief, H.R.H. The Princess Anne. Part of the Regiment was shortly destined to s erv e, for t he fir st tim e, in the Far East and after 1971 play its part in turbulent Ulster....The title of the book is the nickname of the 14th dating from 1813 when the Regiment captured the silver chamber-pot, originally owned by Napoleon, f rom Kin g Jo sep h B onap art e's car ria ge after the battle of Vittoria. It has since been a valued possession of the Officers' Mess."
