59 pp, 4to (11 1/8" H), hard cover in dust jacket. 12 color plates, 12 full-page b&w pencil sketches, plus additional pencil sketches throughout. "In offering these sketches to the public I am seeking to fill a somewhat inexplicable gap which seem s to have been left open by sporting artists past and present. Pictorial representations of sport usually in the past ran on well worn lines....to most people their animals are more than the acquaintances of the hunting field, and individ u a l s w i t h characters of their own, of interest at all times and seasons. To these true lovers I offer these little sketches in stable and kennel...." Tiny light brown mark on page 27, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, tiny slight bu mp a t bo t to m co rn e rs of boards, light edge wear. Dust jacket is price clipped, has large chip and tears on rear panel - some archivally taped, several other chips and tears - some with creases, moderate rubbing/soiling on rear panel - light ru bbi ng /so il ing e lse whe re , moderate edge wear/wrinkling, two light watermarks on spine, now protected in mylar sleeve. VG/Poor

50 pp, 10 1/8" H. Oatmeal cloth spine with brown lettering, red cloth boards with fox's head in brown & white in white diamond. Six colour illustrations on dark olive stock (one double page) and over 15 b&w illustrations (collated). "To admirers of Lionel Edwards's brilliant pictures of the hunting field it is hardly necessary to say that he has all his life been a hunting man. In this sketch-book he gives us the fruits of his experience of the devious and wily ways of the fox, and his rapid, effective pencil illustrates his text with a vividness which has the quality of genius in it." Inside rear hinge paper is torn making hinge weak but it is holding well, slight insect damage at bottom edge of free endpapers, crease at bottom corner of page leaf 31/32, small bump at bottom corner of boards - migrates into pages, tiny bump at top corner of front board, tiny light foxing marks on spine/hinge cloth, very small bump on fore-edge of rear board. Dust jacket has edge tears, chips, wrinkling and wear; spine has dark browning; insect damage on spine and hinges; light browning and soiling on panels; scattered light foxing marks on inside; protected in a mylar sleeve.

Set during the English Civil War this is " - a story of adventure in a wild and romantic corner of England at a stirring and troubled time. The tale is full of atmosphere and action, and concerns the children of a cavalier family forced to live in hiding in the woods while their father's enemies rule the land, living 'off the country', dependent only on their skill w ith horses and farm stock and their ability to capture the wild game of the Forest...." Small corner crease and light soiling on page 253, crease/wrinkling at bottom edge of illustration contents page, very light browning and a few tiny so i l i n g s p e cks on edges of textblock, shelf soiling on bottom of textblock, very light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, very light edge wear to boards. Dust jacket is price clipped, has moderate edge wear/wrinkling, archival tape at top/bott om i ns id e o f sp in e and flap-folds, browning on spine and flap-folds/edges, soft wrinkles on rear flap, light waviness on spine and rear panel. Very Good-/Good-
